That says they brewed the beer themselves. If you've never home-brewed before, you might be better off looking for a microbrewery in your area and ordering enough beer for your guests. That way, the favor would still be different (ie. not a standard beer from any grocery store), but you wouldn't have to learn how to home-brew. Many microbreweries do tastings/tours, so you could sample your options.

I'm a beer lover, so I think this is a great idea for a favor. However, you should keep a couple of things in mind if you decide to go this route. There are people who don't like beer, so you should probably expect to have some bottles left behind. Also, consider favors for your under 21 guests (if you are having any)...do you plan to have something separate for them, or will they not have a favor at all?

I have one final suggestion. I, for example, drink only dark beers, and know other people who are rather particular about their brews. You might consider having both a light and dark beer as a favor option, particularly if you order from a local brewery. You could just order half the bottles dark and half light, or something of that nature, so your guests would have a choice depending on their tastes.

I have friends who did that, it was pretty cool. they used a brew-your-self store. The "store" provides all the equiptment and you go in and brew it, they bottle it, etc. That way they didn't have to invest in beer making stuff but still got to make beer.

My uncle microbrewed for our wedding (not as a favor, just as a drink option) and it was a huge hit.  He did a winter ale and a blueberry wine.  Luckily, he saved me a bottle of each because they went fast.  200 bottles for 72 guests

If you buy the beer from somewhere else, you might want to look into personalized labels from somewhere like http://www.myownlabels.com/beer_labels/ Normally I'm not a big personalization proponent, but I ordered small stickers from them with our monogram to seal our takeout boxes that we filled with fortune cookies.
