Engagement Ring help

My boyfriend(well, he asked me to marry him two years ago~so I guess that makes him my fiance)and I are on the search for a ring.
I do not want a diamond. I have several(my mom's my gram's my nana's, mine from a previous relationship) They just don't "do" anything for me.
I LOVE the color green, especially lime green and would love a green stone!
Peridot is a great color, but I have heard too soft for every day.
Tsavorite garnet is nice, but again, too soft.
Green sapphire is harder then all....
What are your thoughts and ideas? Tips?
I am a Preschool Teacher so wash my hands about 1000 times a day and am pretty hard on my hands while at work.

Emerald is a nice stone and you can place it in various settings. You can always check local jewelers on what they have for rings for May birthdays. I'm always a Preschool Teacher and I know having a durable ring is super important especially when you are constantly washing your hands and picking up toys. Good luck!

Go with a green lab made sapphire.. You're more likely to get 1. a better price that is 2. ethically sourced (since it's lab created) in the 3. color you want.

I would go with the sapphire, hands down. It's second hardest after diamond, and you can get all sorts of different shades of green.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest looking at http://www.thenaturalsapphirecompany.com/. They are ethically sourced (and most of their green sapphires are mined from Montana).

Originally I wanted a sapphire ring, but it turned out FI had an heirloom he wanted to give me so we went with that.
