Big Dreams on Little Budge.. HELP!?!

My fiance and I parents will not be able to financially contribute to our wedding so we will be paying for it ourselves. Any suggestions on fundraisers or special tricks to save. We are thinking about getting married by spring/summer 2012.

Don't do fundraisers. It's not fair to ask other people to pay for your wedding. Pay for what you and your FI can afford.

There are all kinds of ways to save money however. Get married in someone's backyard, a community center. Have your reception in a church rec room. Do everything DIY (invitations, decorations, flowers, etc.). Do an iPod reception instead of hiring a DJ. Cut out all unnecessary items that you really don't need (like STDs, programs, favors, chair covers, fancy linens, limo).

Really think about what's super important to you and your FI for that day and spend your money there, because that's what you will remember. If great photos are really important, spend the money on that. If you are both foodies, make sure the menu is fantastic. Trust me that you won't even notice/remember half the things you spend money on for your wedding.

And you also have over a year to save, so sit down now and draw up a budget. And check out the budget weddings board (<a href="http://forums.theknot.com/Sites/theknot/Pages/Main.aspx/wedding-boards_budget-weddings)" rel='nofollow'>http://forums.theknot.com/Sites/theknot/Pages/Main.aspx/wedding-boards_budget-weddings)</a> because those girls have great ideas to save money on everything.

    Good luck!

We were able to pull off a Scottish themed wedding for around $5k-$8K.  Whats your budget?
