    photography and food were important to us, but i wouldn't call them splurges -- our photog was a friend (a pro and we paid him, but it was still a savings) and our caterer was incredible but reasonably priced (get several quotes and find someone who will work with your budget to give you something great). 

    our big splurge was probably the band. we hired them early in the planning process and in the months before the wedding, i'd periodically wonder if we shouldn't have just loaded some songs onto an ipod and saved our $, but they were amazing. everyone asked about them and we had so much fun dancing. the night wouldn't have been the same otherwise.
