a goofy addition... Passports

So I was just brainstorming what sort of quirky thing we were going to do for the reception. I'm not getting married til next year but was wanting some input before I fall in love with the idea and then not be able to do it.

I'm engaged to a man from Chile and I'm from the US. So I was thinking the escort cards could be made into little passports and have that as our general theme for the reception. But I'm worried that it will clash with our Pink and Green colors. Thoughts? Ideas?

I thought do American Passports for my side and Chilean passports for his side. But since I don't think a lot of his family and friends will be able to come, it might be better to do an equal number of people for each. I'm planning to do a lot of games at the reception and figured this would help already decide who's on what team. OR the passports can say the two countries but then just make them Pink and Green? even though they are actually Red and Blue?

Also, what other ways could I keep the theme flowing thru the reception? I thought about flower centerpieces with a world globe at each table. And save the dates could be in the Passport form. What else?

Thanks for the ideas!!

I must say I'm not feeling this idea at all but if its what you want then go for it.  Why do you need to have games at a reception?  Do you not want a big party with a band or DJ?  I've never heard of games at a reception or anyone wanting to do them but I'm sure there are lots of things I have never heard of.  Sounds a bit weird to me.

It would be cool if you listed cities/countries as destinations on the escort card.  Instead of table numbers- you can do "table names" and the cities/countries will be the destinations.

Also- I think the colors will be fine.  I love unique wedding ideas that make your wedding your own!  It is such a cute personal touch!

No one will care if the escort cards match the color scheme.  No. One.

Lose the games idea, especially if you're having a dj and dancing.  Games at a reception are, IMO, like the awful and uncomfortable ice breakers and team building activities at the office retreat.  The same people who don't care if the escort cards will match the color scheme will care even less about playing games.

"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146

I think it's really neat that you're trying to make your wedding unique and focus on the fact that you're from two different countries...  But I have to second everyone else who says that games are a party-pooper :(

I also married someone from Latin America - Mexico - and worked really hard to make sure the wedding was "bicultural" and pleasing to all of our guests.  But it was much more subtle than what you're describing.

Take a look at my bio and you'll see touches of Latin culture: lazo and arras, bilingual ceremony and programs, American jazz band and Latin DJ, and mariachis ;)

Good luck with your planning and let me know if you have any questions ;)

Also, there's another poster - Emilyinchile - who married a Chilean in Chile.  You may seek out her bio for ideas as well.

I just stumbled across this and thought of you.

    Its from www.ruffledgblog.com

I think the passport idea could be cute. I'd go ahead and do it in your colors though. You could make them 2 sided so one side would be pink with Chile stuff on it and the other side could be green with USA stuff.

    awesome thanks for the ideas!

haha to the game thing, no vs. yes: I've seen it and it's fun. and also not getting a dj. I'm very conservative and don't dance so my reception is really more of a dinner than a party. and everyone invited to the wedding is aware of that. haha but thanks for the input. still have lots of time so we'll see how it ends up happening.

@expatpumpkin Yeah definitely doing it bilingual and gona try to do some multicultural things. thanks for the link to the other girl.

@nda_roxybabe oooh i like how simple these are. thanks for the comment!

I am doing the passport idea for my invitations.... as I am marrying someone from Chile's neighboring country Argentina. :)   We made them bilingual as well.  You might check out Etsy as there are several people that make them on there and you can get some ideas.  We chose to not have ours look exactly like either countries passport though.  Good Luck with designing yours.

I like the flower centerpieces with small globes idea.... you could also use small flags and other traditional things from each country mixed in.

I have to disagree.  I think if you go overboard with games, then it gets awkward.  My FI and I are in LOVE with game shows, and so we are doing a fun little question-answer game before dancing to see who knows the bride or groom best--the GM or BM's.  It will only last 15 minutes, but its important to us.  If you want to have games, just be careful how many there are, and how long they last.
