My partner and I went to City Hall to get our Marriage License on Friday! It was incredible to fill out the forms (bride/groom/spouse) and be treated as any other couple...the clerk didn't blink and even took a photo of us with the license after it was all done. I almost cried a couple of times...
I am blessed to live in NY right now and while I am basking in this new civil liberty, I am still saddened that so few of us are able to obtain such a simple thing as a marriage license.
As we left, I said to my partner that we are hopefully paving the way for more couples to have the same rights and we are certainly doing this for them as much as us. I hope that by the time our 13yr olds are adults, getting a marriage license will be a right for all of us.
