Catholic Ceremony Music

My fiance and I have to meet with our church to decide our music for the ceremony. Is there any advice on how to choose the music for the ceremony? There are so many choices.

Re: Catholic Ceremony Music

  • Does your church provide a list or a CD of music that they will play?  H and I used our church CD for a lot of our songs.  I got some suggestions from other brides on here (is that info on the site, Riss?), and then we chose our recessional from a song we'd heard at mass.

  • When we met with our music director we told her what our favorite songs were and then she made suggests based on those and played/sung them for us.  We had a blast!  You could also just google wedding songs and listen to some clips before you go in so you have a basic idea of what you like.  Hope you have fun!

  • Do you have any favorite music from Sunday masses?  Also, have you chosen your readings yet?  Ideally your music should reflect your readings, so it helps to do that first!

Our church didn't have a list of songs so I picked some of my favs from this site and my organist was able to play them (St Anthonys Chorale and Theme from Jupiter). Good luck! ETA: Didn't realize this link was in the CW site. Lots of changes since I last posted here! Nice work on the site :)

    What's the CW site?

Just noticed you're West Coast Florida...where about?  I grew up in Clearwater.

  • I am in the same boat. Still need to pick music for our ceremony.

Also not to steal this thread, but does anyone have links to new mass settings? I have only heard the mass of rebirth and honestly I'm not a huge fan. I was used to hearing mass of light or mass of creation settings but with the new translation not sure what the options for our wedding will be.

It kind of depends what music resource your parish uses. There are three main publishers, so if you look at what hymnal or music resource is in your pews, you can see who the publisher is. It will probably be much easier to use a mass setting that is in that hymnal than just any random setting that you decide you like. So, if after knowing who the publisher of your hymnal is, you can find the section in the hymnal that has their mass settings and jot the names of those down.<div>Then, I'll direct you below to the website of the three main Catholic music publishing companies, and you can look through their mass settings and find the ones that are in your hymnal, and listen to them!</div><div>
