Wedding Party

Flower Girl walk with Mom?

Come my wedding in April, both my flower girl and ring bearer (my FI's neice and littlest cousin respectively) will be just under three. Since that's on the young side from what I've seen for children in the wedding, I was planning on having both of them walk with FSIL (the flower girl's mother).

Now, though, I keep getting people arguing that that will take away from the kids, or look strange, or yada yada  yada...

So what do people think? Would it look odd to have FSIL there with them?

Re: Flower Girl walk with Mom?

  • my RB is my absurdy shy cousin, and I was planning on having him walk down the aisle with his mother, my aunt if she was comfortable with it. I think it's up to you. I don't think it would detract from anything.

  • when I had my first wedding, my son was my ring bearer and he was almost 2. I had him walk holding my brother's hand (who was a groomsman, and also escorting one of my bridesmaids). I don't think it takes away from the kids at all, however, if you want that possible adorable photo op of the kids walking solo, there is that to consider. I also think having children that young walk alone does leave potential hold ups, tantrums, etc... however, that depends greatly on the children, and if you think they can go solo, awesome. If not, trust your gut.
    Praying for a miracle!
  • Our RB was DH's one-year-old nephew/Godson... he wasn't physically capable of walking on his own, and after spending all morning away from his mommy, expecting him to be pulled in a cart or any other such gimmick would have resulted in a screaming RB. He walked holding hands with both of his parents (a BM & GM). I think it was adorable, personally.

(His father was carrying the pillow with fake rings on it; the RB kept throwing it on the floor hah.)

  • Aww, that's adorable.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll stick with my gut then and have FSIL with them. Everyone was just making me second guess myself... RB and FG are both generally well-behaved kids, but they're prone to wandering, so I could totally see them getting distracted and wandering off half-way down the aisle!
