Greetings! If you are getting ordained in VA, make sure you get "certificate of good standing" in addition to ordination certificate! Friend asked me to officiate at her wedding. I requested ordination online with Universal Life Church. I knew from looking at Alexandria VA city website, that I needed to go in person during business hours and show proof of good standing dated within 30 days of the request for authorization to perform marriages in VA. So I went to the Court within 30 days of issuance of the ordination certificate. No dice. I needed to get a separate letter stating that I am in good standing (although why I would have been ordained had I not been in good standing is beyond me.) Had to pay additional fee and hefty shipping charge. SO--If you are getting ordained, get certificate of good standing at the same time!
