Flowers

Need your ideas!

Hey Knotties,

I’m writing an article for The Knot and I want to know your creative flower ideas. Tell me something (anything fun or unique) that you’re doing -- whether it’s with your bouquet, centerpieces or aisle decor. I will also use your Knot name for the quote.
Thanks so much in advance!

When I first got engaged I was pretty dimayed to find out that a severe family allergy (FI's little brother) meant no live florals at the wedding. After I cried for about a week, I started thinking about alternatives. FI & I decided on feathers. We felt they were pretty and when done correctly could have the sophisticated, modern look we wanted.
All of the bouquets are feathers, the centerpieces are manzanita branches hung with tea lights & crystals nestled in a bed of feathers. We're really ecited about how they're turning out.

I wanted something simple for the bridesmaids, but I didn't want just plain roses. My florist and I worked together, and decided to do cream colored roses with a single cymbidium orchid. I loved overall look.

Our colors were green and red, and I wanted the bridesmaid's flowers to have less red and more green.

ETA: Our centerpieces were ornaments, in light of the holiday season.

My attendants bouquets will all be a bright lime green, but each will be different flowers. I am using spider mums, chrysanthemums, cymbidium orchids, super green roses, and hydreangea. Each groomsmen will have a matching boutonniere for the bridesmaid he walks with. I think this will look so much more fun than everything being the same!

My grandmother left my mom hundreds of buttons, so my mom and I took the black and ivory ones and made flowers for my bouquet and my girls' bouquets. We also used crochet flowers from her, and my bouquet had a broken button from her favorite suit. I kept my bouquet and it's in a vase from flowers my husband sent a week before our wedding. It's very special to me.

I'm working very hard on making fabric flowers for our bouquets and bouts. I've purchased a few different types of fabrics in different textures and patterns (in orange, peach and white to match our colors!) and I know it would look GREAT if I could just stop stabbing myself with the needles! (I've started keeping a stash of bandaids next to me lol)

My bouquet will be following our fall color scheme consisting of orange and tan roses and dahlias, including orange mamba spray roses and tan Sahara roses.

I will be adding an antique styled bouquet charms to mine that will have a picture of my father and aunt who I have lost. This will be one of the many ways I will remebering them on my special day.

For my bridesmaid I am doing happy and sunny orange gerber daisys and will be adding a boquet charm to each of their arrangement with their initials. Since they are all the same, I thought it would be a nice way to have them set apart from eachother.

Our flowers will consist mostly of sunflowers; though nothing else in our wedding is yellow.  We're actually doing burgundy dresses; so in order to bring it all together - my florist recommended a burgundy leafy filler; which I hadn't hear of.  I just knew I didn't particularly care for the burgundy flowers that I'd seen.  So the safari sunset filler is perfect, in addition to the monte casino asters (tiny daisies) that will be included as a tribute to our puppy Daisy.

For me, my venue is rather large and simple, so we want to create some atmosphere and height to the room.  I'm working with my florist to incorporate flowers in the blue color family, so hydrangea, delphinium, and so on.  We're going to do alternating low and high centerpieces to give a unique look to the room.  In each of the vases, there will be blue colored water lit by a submergible light, to give the table and room a blue glow, once again to create an ambiance.

My bouquets are going to be simple balls of hydrangea for my bridesmaids with some delfinium.  I really like the simplicity of the ball and how beautiful the hydrangea is like that.  For me, my bouquet will incorporate some white roses to match my dress.

Flowers were something I didn't think I was too excited about, but all these ideas becoming a reality are really making me anxious to see the final product at my wedding!

I'm making paper roses out of pages from our favorite books, which I purchased secondhand.  PIB.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

I had my bouquet made on Etsy--it's crafted out of silk, feathers, and antique jewelry:

I'm planning on using all in season flowers for our wedding party. Our center pieces will not be floral, just candles. For there to be a pop of color on the tables we will be using dahlias from my mom and aunt's gardens in tiny vases we are using for the place card holders.

We are really trying to stay as green and organic as possible by using the in season flowers and doing as many large flower displays as potted plants that can just be moved into someone's yard after the wedding.

I'm incorporating pink into our fall colored wedding. Our colors are pink, brown, orange, red, and deep purple.  Since there is pink on my dress. Also the grooms bouts will have furn frongs facing eachother to make a heart (AW). Though they will probably break off by the end of the day.

I'm going to be using lots of textured flowers in my bouquet along with simpler ones. I'm also going to have a pop of color with the ivory fabric wrap around my stems, along with a ladybug brooch attached at the top where the bow will be. I am also getting blingy brooches that symbolize my bridesmaids to attach to their bouquets.

Each one of my bridesmaids will be carrying a bouquet of a different color rose. Example: Red bouquet, Yellow bouquet, Orange bouquet, Circus bouquet, and Burgundy bouquet. I will have two of each of these colors in my bouquet as well as ivory/cream colored roses.

My daughter's October wedding was in Pittsburgh in the beautiful Heinz Chapel on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh.

Each of my daughter's bridesmaids carried different bouquets, - i.e. one was only red parrot tulips, one was sunflowers, one was orange tiger lilies, etc.

My daughter's bouquet was a combination of all of the flowers that the bridesmaids carried as well as calla lilies and hyperculum berries.  Her bouquet was wrapped in my wedding gown and she had a pewter elephant of her late Grandpa's wired into the bouquet.

Her husband's family own several farms -- the groomsmen's and ring bearer's boutonnieres were wheat and hyperculum berries.  The groom's boutonniere was a calla lily, wheat and hyperculum berries.

The pew decorations were wheat sheaves and a blackbeard wheat wreath was hung outside the Chapel.

Because the Chapel is so incredibly beautiful -- there was no need for a lot of flowers.  The Claddagh Unity Candle featured a  centerpiece of flowers that matched my daughter's bouquet.

We ordered a customized burnt orange aisle runner with a Claddagh monogram and the bride and groom's name.  The orange just really "popped" and was incredibly beautiful.

For the reception centerpieces my daughter made branch centerpieces in tall cyliner vases.  She collected rocks from the creek bed of one of the farms, as well as branches from the yard.  She made wire hangers for votive candles and also hung glass crystals we purchased from eBay.

She also took twigs from the yard and wired them to over 120 votive candles.

Some of the other table centerpieces were manzanita wood. She had the florist glue real brown Teddy Bear sunflowers to them.

And my daughter put creek rocks in medium sized cylinder vases and has floating orange orchids in them.

We also ordered a manzanita tree and had a wish tree for the guests to write and hang their wedding wishes for the newlyweds.

The wedding cake was carrot (the bride and groom's favorite) and the topper was fresh fruit.

(Favors were wildflower seeds as well as boxed truffles.)

The wedding was country meeting city -- and it was a beautiful and elegant event with a rustic flair. :)

There are lots of photos in the photo section of my profile.

My bouquet will look like something I could pick out of my garden - filled with color and texture.  My florist described it as a handheld brightly colored garden.  Since the flowers will all be in season, and a lot of it will be textural (AKA Filler), the price will be lower than a traditional wedding bouquet.

Instead of a floral centerpiece, I'll have a whirlypops, unicorn pops, and lollipops arranged to look like a bouquet.  They'll double as wedding favors, which helps keep the costs down as well.

I did all of our flowers myself but the most special was my bouquet... It had ribbon from my mother-in-laws bouquet, and my grandmothers picture attached to it.

    Every mother in my family:

sisters, mother of bride, mother of groom, step mother, aunts are growning planters full of flowers of my choice, propably hydrangeas (blue and white) and crysanthiums (cream) which will be used to decorate the yard and tent.

I will also have my flower beds filled with blues creams yellows and whites. ( these surround the house.)

The tables will have different colored flower arrangements including wild flowers picked from around our 46 acre yard and fields. (butter cups, daiseys, other blue flowers I cant remeber the name-all wild growing)

I will have an isle of tiki lamps lining both sides, I will take the oil cans out and fill the space with bouquets of wild flowers, and raffia ties with seashells and starfish haning.  I will also swag cream and white tulle (propally 9" wide) from one tikki pole to the other, with a few strands hanging  to sway in the wind.

We have a home cut path through the bush which we use as a back drive way in the winter.  There are beautiful trees lining either side.  I will be hanging a sign (Lover's Lane) at it's entrance and hanging mason jar lanterns, from the trees.  I wil also hang some of the lanterns with flowers in them. I plan on carving couples names into the trees (Laura + Timothy) and so on.
