Minnesota-Minneapolis and St. Paul

Grooms Dinner

Any suggestions for places to have our Grooms Dinner?  I am really struggling with this.  We are probably thinking Minneapolis or Northeast Minneapolis, but open to other suggestions in the general area.  Our budget is about $500 for 20 people.  Is it ok to only provide food, since we are having an open bar reception?

Re: Grooms Dinner

  • Since you (or either set of parents) are hosting, you should pay for drinks too should your guests have any. It's still a hosted event.

As far as actual places, could look into Buca, Solera, Keys Cafe in Foshay Tower, Pizza Luce- there are so many to choose from.

  • I've heard that the Old Spaghetti Factory is quite reasonable for rehearsal dinners. Otherwise, do something super casual (pizza, family style meals, etc.) that would keep the cost down.

You really should try to host beverages at your RD. It doesn't need to be a full bar; we just did beer, wine and sodas for ours and it was quite reasonable ($700 for 25 people for everything).

  • I guess I'm in the minority here where I don't think an open bar is required at the event. My ILs hosted our RD and were clear that they were not comfortable hosting alcohol. People probably aren't gonna get toasted at the RD anyway, so I can't imagine people would be paying much anyway, for one or two drinks.

  • Not sure of venues in that area...

We are having our RD at a mexican restaurant and are most likely (going to clear this with FI's parents as they are paying) going to just provide pitchers of strawberry margaritas (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), if guests want beer or pop they can but it themselves.

You're seriously going to make your guests pay for their own non-alcoholic drinks? That's pretty cheap of you...and not in a good way.

  • Yeah I would have to agree that not hosting pop/juice is not a good choice.
