Nevada-Las Vegas

what is the order of your reception?

How long is it and what are you going to do? Are you cutting cake and doing the first dance in the beginning? im trying to put together a timeline, ours is 3 hours. We wont have dancing except for our first dance and maybe father daughter dance, and cake cutting. the rest of the reception will just be eating and drinking and hanging out

Re: what is the order of your reception?

  • Our day was fairly long but we had eight hours of open bar from before the ceremony began to the end of the reception so our guests were able to suffer through it lol.  Here's the schedule:

Guests begin to arrive    3:30 ~ 4:00 PM
Ceremony starts    by 4:15 PM (ended up 15 late thanks to my step mom)
Move guests to lounge    after ceremony
Wedding party to photo session around Mandalay    by 4:45 PM
    Guests back to restaurant
    Dinner service begins    6:30 PM
Dancing starts at conclusion of dinner
    Cake cutting    8:15 PM
    Cake is served    8:30 PM
Party till midnight for those that want to stay.  Had about half of our 125 guests stay till the end.

  • we are eating and maybe a few dances cutting cake and then off to strip tour. we would rather have great food than short white chick who cant dance lol
  • I am thinking:

    5:30 – 6:00 – Cocktail Hour 6:00 – Announcements & 1st dance & cake cutting6:30 – Dinner7:00 – Dancing (mother/father dances)

    9:30 – Reception ends

    We may add an hour.

  • We are doing announcements at 7pm, dinner, followed by first dance then cake cutting. Since it's a late dinner we didn't want to keep our guests waiting to eat.

  • Here's how we did our 3 hour reception/dinner

6:00-6:30 - our guests were already there (we threatened them to not be late) so when we arrived at 6, we met with the lead waiter and had cocktails and the guests mingled.
6:30-8:30 - we had a 4 course dinner.  Soup was first and immediately after we ate our soup, we did our first dance while others finished eating.  Then we just let our ipod continue to play songs in the wedding album.
8:30-9:00 - we noticed that time was flying so we quickly did cake so eveyone could eat before they left (not like they kicked us out). Had people sign the guestbook print if they hadn't already done so and just finished up having a cocktail.

You will be amazed at how fast it all goes.  Just make sure to sit back and enjoy as much as you can.  What's planned will be great :)
