Favors

What are you doing for favors?  My fiance and I are at odds about what we want to give.  He actually doesnt want to give a favor at all but I explained that it will be our way of thanking our guests for coming and sharing in our special day, he's on board now albeit reluctantly but now we're trying to decide what to give.  I want to do something edible like cookies, cake pops, or french macaroons....is edible ok or too much dessert in addition to the cake?

Re: Favors

  • For me, I find favors to be a waste of money. I'm not against anyone else doing so I really don't mean to offend anyone, but they're just not my thing. My mom however really wanted to do them, so they're mostly up to her. She did want my input though so I suggested that we do a snack mix sort of thing for people to munch on throughout the night. I thought something like that might be more likely to get eaten than candy or something. I suggest doing something people might actually use. Don't waste too much time or money on them though, since half the time they get thrown.

Story time: My mom crocheted a TON of little favor boxes for my cousins wedding years ago. Some people appreciated them and thought they were nice, but at the end of the night, a ton of them got thrown right into the trash can. She felt hurt by that which is why I'm not letting her spend too much effort on these. Just something to keep in mind!

  • I agree with the pps. We're having a cookie table as our favor- its a Pittsburgh thing-  all of the family gets together and bakes different cookies. We're providing to go bags for guests to take some home. I feel like the edible favors are the best. I don't know how popular candy tables are in your area but at the past 2 weddings we've seen them and hardly none of the candy was taken because most of the guests were older.

  • I am making carmel corn as favors for everyone. Just going to be a big table with buckets of carmel corn sitting there all night! So not really any specific favors.

However, 80% of my guests are coming from out of town, so for anyone who is staying at hotel I am putting together a welcome bag with a few small things it. This way I only have to buy 30 things instead of 80.

  • We are having a photobooth at our reception. This will allow all the guests to take photos with whoever they want... a copy they keep and one goes in our scrapbook. It has our name and date on it to make it "favor like". The booth we are getting actually does the photos into a 4x6 with 4 photos taken, instead of the traditional photo strip. We thought this would be more likely to be able to put somewhere vs a photo strip.
In addition to the photobooth we are also having a candy buffet. We figured edible gifts are more likely to get used up... and its easier to give away after the wedding than a bunch of glasses with my name on them would be. (We still have some from my sisters wedding 5 years ago)

98% of time the wedding favors I get are something most people will never use again. We did recently get a shot glass, which we were excited about.. because we collect shotglasses from places we have been. So to us it was fitting... but at the end of the night you could tell a lot of people left them on the tables. We actually grabbed an extra so we could have one to use, and one for the display.

  • We're having a candy buffet. Edible favors are my favorite, and it will give our guests something to check out after the ceremony. To make the bags for the candy buffet more "favor-like", I bought these stickers to put on the bags with our names and wedding date.

  • I think the traditional favors are a waste ( bubbles, cd's, Hersey kisses... Etc). Fi and I decided to do custom favors, we are a doing cupcake bar (lemonade and macadamia nut), we will also offer wedding cake, we are also doing ceramic custom escort cards for all the guests.

  • I haven't decided for sure that we're going to do favors, but if we do I've been thinking about putting together a nice tea blend and putting a couple tea bags in a cute favor bag for everyone.  That way it still falls under the category of consumable, but if tons of people leave them I won't be hugely offended because our families will definitely be able to use them.  It looks to be pretty affordable too, so we'll see.
  • We are doing a popcorn buffet with different kinds of gourmet popcorn ... pumped!

Also plan on doing the hotel bags for guests staying at the hotel... this will be fun!  Haven't started search for what all to include in those but that will be fun I think!
  • For me Personally I don't like edidble favors and chose not to do them. This is for 2 reasons, for starters I live the weight watchers life style so when I go to a special event I prepare all day to eat the high calorie dishes offered and I dont want more candy so I take it home it sits around and I eventually throw it away. Secondly I like to do things super early (I've been done with the favors for a couple months now) so perishables were not in the cards for me. If your are curious my FI is a big music lover and we chose to do mix CD's it was an idea he really loved and I thought was cute (I know many Knotties do not like this idea).

All that being said, that is for me PERSONALLY I've noticed that there is some unwritten law somewhere on the knot that all favors be edible so if thats what you feel best fits your self and your fiance then thats probably the very best direction you could choose so go for it!

  • At first, I was going to handmake tile coasters as favors, but later decided that I would rather make those as gifts for the people who are helping me with different aspects of the wedding. Since our wedding is small (under 70 people), the majority are family and those helping us out, so I figure favors are unneccesary. Plus, our programs are going to be message in a bottle, so that is a little gift guests get to take home anyway. Our budget is so tight that this is an area we are forgoing.
