What's a DJ cost these days?

What is a good price for a DJ?
We're just looking for someone fun to keep the party going...nothing special, no montages or lights or even the fun handouts.... 
I got a quote from someone I would like to hire, but I'm not sure what is reasonable anymore!!!! Embarassed

    $1000.00 is a good starting point for basics. But it all depends on how long, what parts of the wedding, etc.

    I have seen a bunch of quotes starting at about $800 for 4hrs, usually only one person - the DJ.  Add an MC, cocktail hr and possibly even ceremony music and you'll probably be looking at $1200-1500 minimum...
