New Birth Control Pill

Did any of you see the article on CNN yesterday for Beyaz?  It's a version of Yaz that also contains folic acid.  The theory is that when women stop taking the pill they're bodies will be better prepared for pregnancy.  I personally think this is pretty awesome.

Here's the article:

Why not just take a vitamin?

It is a good idea, but I'd never take Yaz.  It's for more severe symptoms associated with periods, and has some nasty side effects (like kidney stones).  I'd be happy if my birth control had folic acid, but I drink so much orange juice on a daily basis anyway that it's probably not a big deal.

I'm taking Yaz because I do have those serious symptoms that come with my periods, I haven't experienced any serious side effect yet, but I'm on the look out for them.

For me it'd be a good idea because I suck at taking supplements.  I have an alarm on my phone for my birth control but rarely ever take the vitamins or fish oil that I have.  Not that I have any good excuse for not taking them, I just don't.

I did this when I was on the pill.  For about a year after I stopped taking it and started taking Depo, I would sometimes stop randomly at 8pm and think "I should be doing something."</div>

Honestly, I'm not a fan.  If I want vitamins, I'd take a vitamin supplement (which I do).  Also, a lot of women will start taking pre-natal vitamins before they get pregnant to help along the process as well.  If you're also getting a dose in your BCP, it will be really easy to overdose on vitamins.  Vitamins don't qualify as "can't get too much of a good thing".  Overdosing on some vitamins can do damage to your system.

I also have a phone alarm set.  I'm on the mini-pill, so I can't be more than an hour late with it.  Grumble, grumble.

I could never remember to take the pill... so I'm on Nuva Ring. It is pretty good so far with minimal side effects

You took Yaz and had kidney stones?  There are some class action law suits going on right now on that very subject.  Do some searching - it might be worth it.  They did some deceptive marketing early on that they're trying to counter-act now, but if you started taking it before when they were just marketed as another form of birth control (not specifically for all the PMDD symptoms) then you'd probably be eligible.

    Yaz commercials are annoying.

The party setting where 5 girls are sitting around nonchalantly listing the side-effects like the voice over you hear on car commercials???

    PUH----LEASE!

Whoever is in charge of their PR sucks.
