  One of my friends had a cocktail reception at A New Leaf and it was gorgeous! 
  
  I think you need to be prepared that some guests who may be a bit more traditional may be unhappy without receiving a full meal, but many cocktail receptions actually have so much food, it ends up being the same as a full meal.  You might just get some comments from guests who don't understand that.
  
  I think another main consideration is that you need to try to have enough chairs for everyone if possible.  A lot of people may not love having to stand the whole time.  Even if they're young, heels aren't fun forever!
