Where should this go to get the most responses?

I am trying to get pros and cons of hiring a DOC. Our wedding is July 19 of this year and I am realizing all of the little things that need to be done either the day before or the day of. I would love to have a professional to assist, but I need to convince FI that the $ is worth it. I was talking to my mom, the biggest couponer and money saver I have ever met, and she actually thinks it may be a good idea.

So, where would I post a question about this on here? None of the boards seem to fit it completely, at least that I can figure.

Suggestions? Or responses if it should go here! TIA!

Re: Where should this go to get the most responses?

  • We're debating about hiring one ourselves. I think if you've got a lot of reception components or deliveries that will be made on the actual day it can be worth it. We also cannot set up until two hours before our reception (ahh!) so it would be nice to have someone there to make sure everything will be ready on time.

We are just debating because our caterer actually will do a lot of set up. So we can't decide how much use we'd get out of a DOC. But
I think hiring one can free up a lot of time and stress for you and your family. I know a lot of ladies on here did hire a DOC for their wedding. Hopefully, they'll chime in.

  • Does your venue have a coordinator you've been dealing with?  They will generally also play the role of DOC, as can the caterer.

I would find out if your venue offers someone as part of your contract.

No, they dont. And the venue is doing the food, so no caterer.

Thats the issue. We are getting married in a chapel that does wedding all the time, even spur of the moment ones, so we only have the chapel from 4-530. Ceremony it at 430 so if we want to set up anthing we would have to hold off guests from going in until its done. I think that would be rude. We could pay $50 for an extra half hour before the ceremony, but who would do the setting up? Im thinking just tulle on the aisle seats. The chapel itself have floral arrangements so nothing too big, but also the guest book, programs, bubbles and such need to go out.

Then with the reception hall, we wont know until the week of if we can set up the night before or morning of. And if w can set up the night before, the linens and table runners may not be out yet, so some of the stuff, like flower petals, couldnt be put out until the morning of, and then again, who would do that? And the centerpieces, while not floral, have little elements in it The site used to do it for the couple, but in the last year they have changed their policy and have the bride/family/friends do it. Im thining a bride complained so they decided to have it on the bride and groom. She did say she would help with minimal set up since we are OOT, but still we have more than just a little bit of set up.

I just dont want to stress. My mom even offered to do it for us, but I told her I didnt want her to worry or stress either. She jokingly said I didnt trust her to get it right, lol. Just told her no, its not her job to do anything other than relax and get ready for the day/night.

So, its not A LOT per se, just little stuff!!! I did find one that will do a $100 discount if we book by the 7th, which will make it $700. Not bad from what I have seen I think.

Haha, I totally get it. It's always the little things!

And yeah, the unfortunate part is that it's up to you and your FI at the end of the day. It's not really appropriate to ask anyone to do it for you unless they offer. It sounds like you will be pretty crunched for time the day of. Regardless, I would definitely pay for the $50 half hour. If guests come early (and they probably will), you want to make sure they have somewhere to sit. I think $50 will totally be worth the peace of mind the day of.

My FI thought the idea was stupid until I laid out every tiny detail that would need to get done the day of. I think he kind of gets it now. Whatever you do, I would definitely shop around a little bit for a DOC. Get quotes and compare packages.

Haha, that was a jumbled mess, but long story short: I would hire one if I was you and if it fit into my budget.

  • I'm not getting a DOC because my reception venue is all inclusive and there is a rep from there that takes care of a lot of it. But FWIW, I have only heard people say positive things about having a DOC and everyone says it is the best money that they spent.

Thanks. Ive emailed about 8 so far that are in my area that i found, and the most expensive was $1750 and the cheapest was $500. Unfortunatley I wasnt that impressed with the $500 one, and it turned out she wasnt available, and while we are way under budget, actually the wedding is now paid for, we dont have an extra almost $2000 for this, ya know. Its kind of a last minute  "didnt think we would need this, but hell we just may!"

Yea, I wish ours did. Im thinking I will try really hard to convince FI that we do need this, or he and his guys, if they offer, will be running around the day of, lol.

For $50, get the half hour regardless. We didn't need a DOC as the venue was all inclusive and the church had one we had to hire for the 15 minute ceremony. The florist and DJ are the venue's catering manager's exclusive contractors, too. It sounds like you could use one. If all that weren't the case, we could have used one.

Thanks, I think we will at least get the xtra half hour. I just cant believe that they expect people to get ready and let guests in half an hour before a ceremony starts!!!

I had a DOC, even though my wedding was fairly simple. I highly recommend it. It's just nice having a point person who you can say "could you get us some water? The makeup person isn't here, can you call her and get an ETA?" At the end of the wedding it was especially useful to have someone gathering up all the gifts, leftover programs, etc to take to the car.

I've been the BM running around for three hours before the ceremony doing everything because there wasn't a staff member to put out the favors, set up the escort cards, etc. Pay someone!

  • Definitely get the extra half hour.  I can't tell you whether or not you should hire a DOC or not.  Most people I know have set up everything themselves in advance.  Given your time restraints, I see why this is an issue.  Is there any way your venue can give you a definite on whether or not you can set up the day before?  But either way, if you really have the money for it, I think it won't be a bad idea to hire one.

Also, we have the same wedding day!  :)

  • @wittykitty14, its so exciting!! How is the planning going for you?

I emailed the ceremony site and requested the extra half hour so that is all good.
