  Is there some sort of symbolism with the watches that you're going for?  I think it's a odd, but whatever floats your boat.

  It's not "too modern" it just seems a little different.
  
  I guess you could make a statement about it symbolizing the time you've spent together, etc.
  
  If that's what you want to give each other, go for it
  
  If it were me, I'd probably not include an exchange of anything (but vows) for the ceremonial part and I'd exchange gifts privately. But it's a personal call.

  Yeah the modern gift for 15th anniversary are gold watches...I write poetry and of course the watch will be the focus on the times of good and bad, etc.... It's definitely different and so uniquely us! Just wanted to hear the opinions/thoughts of others...thanks!
