August 2013 Weddings

SO MANY missing RSVPs!

I know the protocol for this- waiting a week, calling around, giving a deadline, etc. But can I just say how shocked I am by the sheer number of people who did not RSVP?

Our RSVP date was Friday, the 12th. By Tuesday, we were still missing 80 people! Eighty out of 300 which is very close to a third!! We've found a few more people (my family I wasn't worried about extending a whole lot more days- I just need to know what their entree selection is), but we still have about 45 to go. NUTS!!

I will be returning RSVPs for every wedding I'm invited to from here on out AT LEAST a week before the deadline. This is so frustrating!

Re: SO MANY missing RSVPs!

  • Ugh what a pain! Good for you for keeping a level head about it. I'd be frustrated too. We've had better luck; a week til the deadline and only missing 29/145. I'm going to have to start calling right away though; I didn't realize you were supposed to wait a week to call and our numbers are due two weeks out.
  • That is awful!  I don't understand why people don't RSVP on time.  Our deadline was Saturday and we're still missing about 20.  We've started the calls because we need to give our venue the number of tables this weekend.  We decided about a month ago to do chair covers and matching napkins but we are alternating where one table is all pink and the next is all green.  Our venue needs the number of tables by this weekend to order the chair covers in time.  I'm getting super stressed out, because people aren't picking up their phones or returning our messages.
  • I got "scolded" on here for sending my invites early but the situations you guys are dealing with is the exact thing I was trying to avoid. I think I would be driving myself crazy trying to track people down this close to my wedding! I give it to you ladies for having the patients for it.

  • I feel your pain. We are still missing 127!!!! How hard is it to freaking RSVP. When I get a wedding invite I drop that RSVP in the mail within 4 days of receiving it.
  • yes Im still missing over HALF our guest list RSVPs...the deadline is 7/30 I will give a call next Friday which allows them Saturday-Monday to get it done..If I dont have anything by the 1st...They will have to miss the party.

  • We are still missing over half of our RSVPs as well...I totally dont get why people drag their feet with sending them back, it really is pretty easy considering you are including a pre-addressed stamped envelope, lol!

  • I know the feeling. I'm still waiting on a bunch too and our cut off is tomorrow! Most of them are from family. It honestly drives me nuts!! If you know you're coming just send the RSVP! GRR!! LOL!
  • not that i'm happy that it's happening to you but glad i'm not the only one! i agree, i always got the RSVPs in on time. we sent out 120, my MIL called around her family and friends who she invited and now we are down to needing 8 RSVPs AND ONE IS IN THE WEDDING! some people are just not responsible and while we think of our weddings as the biggest day, it's just a party to some people and they aren't getting that they need to tell us what meal choice, if they are bringing a date. it's frustrating!

It may not have been proper, but I put my future MIL's phone # and email address on the reply cards. I know my family, and it would have def been a waste of money. Some of them are rsvp'ing to my Mom, who hasn't been involved in anything! Ughhhh!!!

  • Its so frustrating isn't it? Mine were due back last week, and I've had a couple trickle in since then. I don't understand how it takes people so long to fill out a card and stick it in the mail!

  • crystal&russl10 We did the same thing and I'm so glad we did. We're still missing a few but with our families everyone has just been telling either us or our parents if their coming or not. It would've been a huge waste of money.

  • My stragglers are finally starting to trickle in. Definitely more declines at this point, but we're already at our minimum so that's totally fine.
