Looming Decisions...

My wedding date is 11/2 and I have a few more decisions that I need to make and I'm having a difficult time doing so...

#1 - Favors or no favors - I can't decide whether or not to do them! We are having an evening wedding and have a phenominal caterer with several options to choose from, cupcakes and a cake and signature drinks as well as an open wine and beer bar.  All of the ideas I've given to my fiance, he's turned down.  The only idea he liked was getting personailzed stadium cups that guests could use and then take home... (I'm not sure on the 'classiness' of this)

#2 - Garter and Flower toss - We don't have too many single friends... so I'm not sure if I want to keep this tradition either...

Thoughts??

Re: Looming Decisions...

  • I can't decide on the second one either! We only have like 4 or 5 "singles" and if some don't want to participate it seems silly.

As for the favors, I think it would be nice to have something. Do you a theme or something you can tie the favors into or something that is meaningful to both of you? If you want to do the stadium cups, I say go for it.

We are doing macaroons because I figured who doesn't like more food LOL.
  • #1 I go back and forth on this on the regular myself. Favors, while a nice touch, usually end up being something that people toss in a jar or on the shelf. If it's something nice and usable, it's not going to be inexpensive, especially when you have 100+ people in attendance. Ultimately, I've decided to go with something easy (see #3 on this list: http://www.buzzfeed.com/peggy/useful-wedding-favors-your-guests-will-actually-want). Alternately - is there a shared passion/cause for you and your FI? Like music or animals or cancer research? Maybe make a donation to a local nonprofit and leave little cards for your guests that say "In lieu of favors, a donation has been made to xyz in honor of this special day"

#2 I'm not even planning to WEAR a garter. I've made a toss bouquet, but I'm not even sure it's going to happen yet.
  • We are having a photobooth (our save the dates were a photobooth strip) so those will be the favors.

We are not doing a garter toss but I am tossing a bouquet. I'm making a bouquet of silk flowers to toss so I can keep my bouquet.

  • I think favors are always a nice addition to weddings. I like seeing what the couple chooses as their favors and yes, sometimes they are kind of useless but I like seeing how they tie into the wedding. For example, my cousin chose to have mini succulents as her favors/escorts for her California wedding. I loved it! We are going back and forth with a couple ideas but I've narrowed it down to three so we will chose something once we know how many we need to order.

As for the garter/bouquet toss, we are doing both. I get a toss bouquet for free with the package I purchased with my florist and FI wants to do the whole garter toss thing so we figured we might as well do both.
  • We're doing s'mores kits for favors as we have an open fire pit at our venue that we thought would be neat for an extra something sweet.  I'm going to put all the ingredients in a little bag and tie it up with a tag that thanks people for coming.  We'll have sticks if they want to eat them then, or they can take them home.

I was in the same dilemna about the garter/bouquet toss.  Most of my friends are married already and my cousins are all pretty young, so we would have had about four or five people tops on the floor for each.  Instead, we've decided to do an "anniversary dance".  All married couples will be out on the dance floor and the DJ will start with "anyone who has been married less than a day please sit down" and continue on until only couple remains.  That female will get the toss bouquet.  I think it's a neat way to honor the married couples and still have something to do with the free toss bouquet that came with our florist package.  :)
