Re: fsog.

  • Charlie hunnham is Christian grey!!!
  • I am not seeing Hunnham as Christian at. all.  Nope.  Can't do it.   I'm ridiculously disappointed in that one.  Never heard of Dakota Johnson but she's ok.  I was picturing Emma Stone the entire time I read it, for some reason.

Now, that aside, I'm still not understanding how in the world they're going to make a movie out of that that can actually be shown to the public in a regular theater.
  • I'm so fricken excited!
  • O gees I always pictured chistan bale as grey and an unknown for Anna.and.Blake lively as Kate.
  • I met Charlie Hunnam in July on the set of SoA. In person is very soft spoken but has and edge to him. I think he is going to be perfect.

You were on the set of SOA? What for?
  • Charlie is hot. But why the fuck are they trying to make a movie out of this? It's bad porn.

Because if the books made a lot of money the movies (they are making 3) will make more. And people like me are very happy they are making movies. And yes I like porn good or bad.
  • I read the first book, got bored about 2/3 of the way through, but kept reading it because I thought maybe something substantive would happen. Of course it never did.   I'm all for penthouse forum style porn,  but fsog was just felt like the same scene over and over and over again.

But, that's me.  It has a HUGE loyal fan following and I fully expect the movies are going to make a ton of money and sell out for the girls night out crowds, just like Magic Mike did.  I'll probably wait and rent it on DVD though. I mostly want to see how the translate that to 90+ minutes of screen time.
  • Im curious about how its going to translate too. Like how is the inner Goddess thing work.
  • A friend of mine made a huge donation to Theo Rossi's charity staten strong. They had an auction for a 2 day trip to LA to be on the set. She took me along. It was AMAZING. I didnt get any pics with Charlie Hunnam because he waa super busy and exhausted but we met him and so many of the others!!! I got to sit at the SoA clubhouse table, I was in Jaxs house, the hospital and the executed producers office.
We actually got to go for coffee with Theo, Kim Coates and Mark Boone Jr.

That is freaking badass. I'm so jealous.

Re: topic at hand- I really really don't see how you can make constant sex into a movie that can actually be played at theatres.
  • Thanks moonlight. It was super badass.

I only read the first book. It bores me to tears. The only good parts were the emails between the two of them. There wasnt even that much sex in it. I dont read a lot if romances and such however I did read The Erotic Trilogy of Sleeping Beauty by Anne Rice. It makes 50 shades look like disney.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure the first chapter of that has more sex then the entire 50 shades trilogy. I was definitely expecting 50 to be kinkier, not just fluff with handcuffs. For a series that thrived off of selling itself as super kinky, boundary pushing, it really took every chance it had to be all "BDSM  is BAD."

    Anniversary
  • I will see it because I love Charlie Hunnam. I dont expect the movie to be good.

  • I've got nothing against the actors themselves but the book was horribly written.

I've read better smut between 2 guys in fanfiction written by teenagers.

  •  I had Ian Somerhalder in mind definitely.

    YES!
  • I am surprised Charlie Hunnam is doing this.  He is too good for this crap.

    YES!

What pisses me off more is that the author is now saying he was never in the running in the first place even though a lot of readers polled stated he would be perfect in the role.

She makes no sense. SHE describes the character. If the vast majority of the readers pictured Ian Somerholder or a guy comparable to him, then how did we end up with a guy who is the opposite of who everyone pictured?

....... It's probably because she's not a very good writer.

My thoughts exactly. Honestly, I'm going to treat this series much like I did Twilight. Except with these books, I actually enjoy reading them again from time to time.

Miming becomes all too real again ...
I suppose now is not the time to mention that FSOG started as Twilight fanfiction, huh?

Yes it helped me want to be more adventuress in the bed room too. And it was a simple read. I like it for the same reason why I like b horror movies. Its entertaining and you don't really have to pay attention to it to know what's going on.
  • I was very well aware that FSOG started out as Twilight fanfiction. It read like very bad Twilight fanfiction. As poorly written as Twilight was, FSOG was a million times worse. I mean, seriously? Anastasia was a graduating English major with no computer and no e-mail address? And as an English major graduating at the top of her class, it never occurred to her to Google the person she was interviewing? It takes five seconds to check a wiki page. Or at least read the questions she was going to ask him? I don't care how many exams you have, if you offer to do a chance of a lifetime interview as a favor for a friend, at least have the decency to read the questions in your head beforehand. What respectable English major who dreams of being a book editor blurts out "Are you gay?" during an interview because you couldn't be bothered to read the questions, first?

Anyway, I read all three of them because there was a hook at the end of the first two books that had me interested in reading the next book. I don't regret the time I spent reading them, because at least the I got to read the story, but I just wish it was better written.

Unpopular opinion? I liked the Twilight movie better than the book. There, I said typed it. And I'm hoping the same thing happens with FSOG.

I don't think the books are known for their great prose.

    The Beauty Books are fun.

    Want more hardcore?

Try "The Academy" series by Laura Antoniou.

Also, read FSOG.  Didn't care for it for a myriad of reasons.

One, it makes out people who genuinely -are- in those types of relationships come across as either broken in some form or fashion (seriously, CG used BDSM as some method of 'control' over his life?  Get real.  Fix yourself before you attempt to 'control' another person's life), and two, OH MAI GAWD!!  "My inner goddess" was shrieking in pain every time that phrase was used.

I can see the appeal of the mommy porn for the softcore set.

As for me; I like mine raw and visceral.

  • @Simply Fated I enjoyed all but New Moon out of the Twilight movies. I couldn't stand New Moon when I was reading it and it translated just the same to the movie. The other four, I enjoyed and even my BF didn't mind going to see the last one because of the action that was put into the fight scene.

Ditto about New Moon. It was my least favorite book and movie.

I just wanted to punch Bella in the face the entire time. It's like, "Hello!! You have a hot werewolf practically falling over himself because he loves you! Forget the sparkly vampire and go with the real man!"

I just didn't like the way Bella treated either of them. She was clingy to Edward, but didn't want to do anything he wanted to do. She wanted to do fun stuff with Jacob, but only to make herself feel closer to Edward. She just didn't make sense.

Oh, the Inner Goddess crap in FSOG made me want to kick wiener dogs.
