New twist on a CD favor

I know CD's are getting to be old school technology, however FI and I are muscians and we are working on producing an album of our own. Would it be really cheesy to give our album out as favors?  Most of our family is still in the 90's technology so CDs are great for a majority of them. Those that are beyond CDs can alway download it to the chosen software if they like what is heard.

The cost would be minimal as we already own the recording equipment and everything needed to produce the album.  We wouldn't be downloading anything illegally since it will be him and I doing the cover songs.

Honest thoughts are greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

My honest thought is that it is a teensy bit AW'ish and self-promoting. Personally, I wouldn't take one.

Why do you need to wait until your wedding to give your family or friends your music? If you want them to hear your songs, ask them, and send them a CD.

  • The album will be complete about the same time as the wedding.

Friends and family that have heard a few of the songs we've recorded have liked them and want a copy of our music which is why we are making the album in the first place.

  • I think it's a bit cheesy, but I'm also not a big music person.

Maybe do the CD and something edible but still inexpensive, like chocolates?

FWIW, I would never tell a friend or family member that I hated their music because I wouldn't want to hurt their feelings.

That said, I probably wouldn't take a CD because I'm pretty sure I don't even own a CD player anymore.  And like PP, I find it a bit AWish.  I'd give out edible favors at the wedding and have CDs available to give out at the next BBQ/holiday/etc.
  • Thank you all for your honest opinions.

We know that the individuals who we shared our music with will honestly tell us their thoughts.  My mother didn't know it was me singing, she thought it was someone off the radio, and she has been hearing me sing for over 30 years.

Bottom like, if guests don't want to take a CD, that's fine with us.  We fed them, gave them an open bar, and entertainment.

If you have some in a basket by your cardbox (or wherever) that's fine.

I would think one at every placesetting or a CD for each guest used as a seating card type thing would be the incorrect approach.

    I agree with you itzMS.

No matter what favor we decide on we would display them on a table away from the place settings.  I'm not a big fan of using favors as seating cards or escort cards.

  • I think your plan to give away your CD's as favors is a really nice idea.  Some people may not take them, but that is true of any favor that you have--- I think you have a great plan!
  • I think it's a very cute idea! I agree with Marshmallow22, if I were a guest, I would take one and I would be honored to receive a favor that took so much time and effort to create. Very unique!
  • Is there a way to do it digitally?  I wouldn't take a CD, but maybe I'd listen on iTunes, etc.  For example, if you're doing an online RSVP, a link to download or hear the album?  Or a spot to feature your efforts on the wedding website?
  • SAHoehle I will look into putting the music on the website, thanks for the great idea.  Most of the guests are not as technically current as one would think in this day and age which is why we would plan on having the cd as well.

  • Minnie2013, we are also planning on giving CDs as favors, and many of our guests aren't as technically current as one would expect as well. I think that guests who are over the age of say, 50, will appreciate a hard copy of your CD. I think the thing to remember here is that favors are OPTIONAL so who cares if you can't please everyone with whatever favor you choose? I say, do whatever feels right for you.
  • I am a huge music fan and so I still go to used stores for CDs. I also thin it would be absolutely adorable to have the music of the couple I just shared in this experience with. I would e one of those people that would TOTALLY take the CD.

  • I am not sure if all of your guests would appreciate your music in the same way you do.  I am not saying that to sound mean but its just what I have learned over the years.  Everyone has there own preferences and tastes.  If you want to include the CD as a gift during your wedding I think you should display it in a basket in a busy place.  I would also provide a Digital option and include that information on a small sign with the CDs.  Then I would stick to edible/no favors on the tables themselves.
