Inexpensive Rhode Island wedding ideas???

Hi all,

I was married in a small ceremony at City Hall in NY in August and my husband and I are planning a bigger wedding next year with family and friends.  We will be having a third celebration in Sweden later next summer, so are trying our best to keep the receptions as inexpensive as possible.  We will most likely have approximately 100 people attend and are very flexible with our date.  Anytime from next February (2014) on would work for us.  We'd like the location to be somewhat convenient for out of towners since some will be flying in (no more than 30 minutes or so from the airport) and would love a place with some ambiance and good food.  Might possibly have an I-Pod wedding and potentially use branches and berries in lieu of flowers if we can get it together for a winter wedding to save some $.  Any suggestions are welcome as far as venue ideas and ways to save money.  We haven't set our budget yet, but will likely try to keep it between $12,000 and 15,000.  Thank you!

  • You are already married.  Congrats!  Maybe just throw a party in celebration of the marriage instead of another wedding?  I'd check out Etiquette & Reception boards where you can find many, many threads on why having a fake wedding is not a great idea.

  • I don't think she is saying she is having a 'fake' wedding...

Congrats and good for you to have the bigger wedding next year. Many, many brides do this...for many reasons.

I am using Quidnessett Country Club for our reception. This would fit in your budget you mentioned...and then some! This is one place in RI that does not charge a site fee. All you have to do is hit the minimums for the food which is very reasonable. The staff is amazing to work with and the views are gorgeous!!! Good luck!
  • I would recommend using a food truck as a great way to save money on catering, plus it's fun and memorable. :) try http://providencefoodtrucks.com/book-truck-event-catering to book trucks for catering.
  • I have been trying to plan my own budget wedding, and one place I fell in love with is the Casino at Roger Williams (http://www.providenceri.com/parks-and-rec/casino )- very reasonale, you can have your ceremony and reception there and bring in your own vendors. It's in Cranston, not too far from he airport.
  • I would say cafe nuovo, chapel grill, waterman grill, or Bella's in smithfield. Sounds fun, good luck!!
