  I think it depends on your budget and where you are getting married.

  
  

  Typically having a hair stylist and MUA come to you will be much more expensive then you going to them.  Also, if you want to use a specific stylist but are staying a good distance away from them in the hotel then it may be easier to have them come to you.

  
  

  I have been in weddings where we went to the salon and where the stylists came to us.  I prefer when the stylists came to where we were getting ready.  Being in someone's home or hotel room was much more comfortable then hanging out in a salon for a few hours.

  
  

  Finally, depending on how many girls you have you may need an extra stylist and MUA to help get everyone done in time so factor that in to your costs as well.

  In my experience, the mom's are usually there during the hair/makeup process. But just ask what she would like to do. If she wants an appointment, great. If not, also great.

  You can offer hairstyling options to whomever you'd like. "I'll be setting up my appointment at XYZ salon, let me know if you would like an appointment as well. Cost is $75 for an updo."
  
  If you're requiring hair be professionally done, you pay for everyone.
  
  Personally, I prefered a salon. My hair was being "difficult" so my stylist was able to have anothet stylist come over to help and be an extra set of hands. I liked that extra security that if we were running short on time, there were other stylists around to help.

  I've been checking out both options and found the salon to be much cheaper.  I like the idea of someone coming to me, but not all my girls are going to be using the services (i've given everyone the choice to do what they want, not requiring anything) and the people that come to us required a min of 4 people to be getting hair/makeup done.   In the end I've decided to go to my regular salon for hair an makeup, then back to my house to finish getting ready with the rest of the girls.
