Finding an Inexpensive Reception Venue

I am thinking about holding my 30-40 guest wedding in Florida (preferably west coast) and am ready to pull my hair out because I have not found a venue! My theme is nautical and I would LOVE to be right on the beach. I'm hoping to pay no more than $4-$5 k total for the reception. Any ideas about how to start my destination wedding destination search?

Well, I have been to a Florida wedding but it wasn't cheap. A few "maybes":

Vacation beach house rental as reception kickoff or base for ceremony & prep

State or city parks with beach or lake access.

    Friend or neighbor 's property

Any local options like gardens, museum or historic areas, marinas, golf courses?

Waterfront restaurant--a big one should fit 30-40 easily
  • I would start looking at atypical places for a reception. Look into private rooms at restaurants, meeting/conference rooms at hotels (smaller/cheaper than banquet rooms), community centers, parks/rec for a beach town (maybe there's a picnic shelter on the beach),.. A vacation house on the beach where you're going to stay would be cool if the renter is ok with it.
