I fell in love with the my wedding venue at the first sight. I've done my research and knew that this is a great venue, and the only issue might be the overpriced exclusive florists. I've also read other posts in the community, and decided to contact the florist with the most reasonable price. I sent the florist a few pictures from my Pinterest, and this is the quote I got:

For the purple centrepiece, the price is around $350

Golden branches: $450

Decoration like this for the entire wedding is around $10,000

+ Delivery + taxes + extra labor expense on holiday weekend

I was shocked when I found out the price! Is the price reasonable? With price like this, I might end up have NO flower at all in my wedding! This is outrageous, or isn't it!!!

  • It is, but you realize that manzanita's are very trendy and expensive now.  They average $20-35 each.  Also, they need to be painted and then there is the vase, flowers, etc.  The ceremony decor takes a little manpower, not to mention the materials, the draping rods, flowers, etc.   My mother used to say, "champagne taste with beer budget."  That's the way it is with venues.

Unless you choose another design or make things much simpler or diy, that's the appropriate costs, I'm afraid - they may be padding just a little as I am sure the venue gets a kick back fee from every event there.

When you say "decorations like this for the entire wedding" do you mean you want draping all around the reception venue?  If so, I can see how that is expensive.  If you just want a draped canopy like that for the ceremony, that should probably run around $1,000.  Also, how many tables/guests are you having?  I am having a smallish wedding, around 85 people, and my flowers for ceremony and reception, plus bouquets etc. are going to be between $4k-$5k all in.  My florist showed me a proposal for a wedding he is doing for 230 people and that is costing $12k because there are so many tables that need centerpieces, a lot of BMs that need bouquets, etc.
  • @CrazyCatLady3 What kind of flowers are you having? Feel like even $4k is a lot... I'm having 125 guests. At this point, I'm about to giving up the idea of having centerpiece at the reception, maybe candles only.

$4k is not a lot for NYC.  I'm not even having those big thick tall ball of flower centerpieces you see at so many weddings.  We are doing a more modern look with several tall skinny vases clustered in the middle of each table, with different types of long stems coming out of each--orchids, calla lillies and some other types of flowers my florist suggested, I forgot the name.  I just said I didn't want any roses or hydrangeas because I don't like anything overly traditional.  My bouquet will be gardenias and peonies, which will be $200 (medium sized) and the small BM bouquets are $90 each.  Then we'll have bouts, corsages for VIPs, an arrangement for the escort card table, and a large credenza of the various types of flowers at varying heights behind where the ceremony will take place, probably also including tall hurricane vases with candles.  You have to take into account that you are not just paying for the raw price of the flowers, but also vase rental fees, set up/delivery, labor to put all the bouquets and arrangements together, etc.

If you don't want to spend a lot, why don't you go to several florists and say, I want to spend $3k max on flowers/decor.  What can you give me for that?  And then go with whoever offers you the best package.
  • Hey Sissixin, I am a fellow Yale Club bride and will be getting married in August :) My fiance and I have visited Fine Flowers by Kelly and her prices were pretty high too, and my wedding planner said Fine Flowers was the most modest in terms of pricing. We have 140 guests/14 tables at our reception. We wanted half tall and half short centerpieces and she quoted around 8 grand for us. Yes the price is pretty steep but we are considering them because their price might be the best we can find for half tall arrangements :(

We will be meeting with Spitz and Peck this Saturday. Will update you on what they quote for us.

Also- I don't know if youre free this Saturday (12/14) but my Fiance and I are dropping by another couple's wedding (Marian had invited us) at around 8:30pm when she is prepping for the reception, to come view the flowers her shop makes. You probably can join us, I can ask if you are interested :)

Looks like I will be seeing you a lot on this forum :) Take care...

Just coming back to let you know I went to a wedding at the Yale Club this past Saturday night.  For the decor, they had half the tables with tall medium sized floral centerpieces, and half with just candelabras w/ crystals hanging down, no flowers.  It looked very nice and they probably saved some money by not having flowers at all the tables.  I don't know which florist they used though.
  • @CrazyCatLady3 Which florist are you using? Thanks!
  • @fhk202 Left you a message on your wall :)

I am getting married in NYC but not at the Yale Club.  I am using Spina for flowers.  They are located in Brooklyn but do a lot of Manhattan weddings.  Not sure if they are on the approved list for the Yale Club.  They are willing to work with smaller budgets though, unlike some of the florists in Manhattan that won't work for less than $8k min.
  • @Terrylovesroy It says we have to use their florist in the venue's contract, but I will ask if I can pay a fine and use someone else! Thanks for the idea!!
