Need help with requirements

I am newly engaged and starting the whole wedding planning process. I was raised Catholic and my family would really like me to have a wedding in the church. My fiance however is Unitarian and would not mind having it in the Catholic church. How will that work? What are the requirements? Also we are looking at venues for the reception in areas not near my hometown church. I heard that you can only get married in your own church.

I think it does a pretty good job of explaining the requirements. You can get married in the Catholic church if only one of you is Catholic and your FI would NOT have to convert. However, I think you should really think about if the Catholic faith and church wedding important to you or just to your parents. The ceremony should reflect the couples beliefs, not their parents.

As part of your vows you will promise to "accept children lovingly from God, and bring them up according to the law of Christ and his Church".

It is probably easiest to get married in your hometown church as many churches do charge a non-member fee although it is possible. You may have to have your parish priest write a letter if you marry in another Catholic church. Also you should make an appointment with a priest and it is okay to look but don't book any other venues until you have everything squared away with your church first!
