Then there was the "groom's suit", designed just for weddings, or maybe Liberace....

OMG, there are four pages of this one!  As I recall, some grooms rented a white satin top hat to go with the white tails.  Thank goodness I married a conservative man who wore traditional black.

Reminds me of the powder blue tux my sister's boyfriend wore to Prom in 1980.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Before my wedding, I had a dream my officiant showed up in one of those vintage white tuxes with the black trim on the lapel.  He was also sporting Buddy Holly glasses and a Beatles-esque bowl cut.  I would have died if he actually showed up looking like that.

If a groom wore that in this day and age I would think he was a waiter!

The first suit totally looks like what my Dad wore when my parents got married in 1978.

I actually like some of them. Very sharp and really nice. I've seen a few guys in tails (black not white) and they looked really really sharp. If we could of afforded it I would of wanted FI to do the black tails but he looked better (sexier) in the tux he'll be wearing this Sat =) hehe

Just remember, all those brides were absolutely sure that this was the new style, and that it wouldn't date or look silly in 20 years!

My Dad wore a brown tux with ruffled ivory shirt.  But when my parents look back on their wedding photos they don't cringe at their outfits.  Instead they smile at the memories they have made and the fact that they are still very much in love with each other almost 39 years later.

Styles and trends change.  They always will.  So people should choose their wedding attire in regards to what they like now, not what will still be in style 20 years from now, because no one knows what will and will not be in style 20 years from now.

My dad wore a light blue suit with a brown paisley shirt for my parent's wedding. My Mom wore a light blue dress. I think it's awesome. It also helps that the picture I have is of him and my mom cutting the cake and my Dad is making a hilarious rock n roll face in the picture. LOL

My dad did not have 1973 ruffles at all. He had a dark morning suit. Think royal wedding ( princess Kate)
