Tight budget, small guest list, need venue ideas!

Hey everyone! I am recently engaged and am becoming more and more frustrated while searching for a wedding venue. I need a space that will accommodate the ceremony as well as the reception. I have a very small guest list.. at the most, it will be 50 guests, but most likely will be a lot smaller than that. Our budget is embarrassingly small. I really don't want to spend more than $1000 to rent a space. Especially since we don't need much space. I don't need anything fancy,  basically just a blank slate that we can decorate ourselves. It would be a plus if we could choose our own caterer or bring our own food. Does anyone have any ideas? I've been looking into park mansions/barns, but the prices are outrageous just to rent the space out for a few hours. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. I am also really flexible with location. I am from Philadelphia and my fiance is from Harrisburg, so anything in or around those areas would work for us. Thanks everyone!

  • You are the exact opposite of my fiance and I (I'm from Hbg, he's Philly) and I also did not see the point in spending over $1000 just to rent a place, so it took a lot of determination and a lot of research!

For Philly, unless they've recently raised pricing, the Gables at Chadds Ford can be right around $1000 to rent for ceremony and reception, if you are flexible on month and/or time of day (ex: Saturday in August vs Saturday in June) and it's so gorgeous there. There's a cute place in Mt Gretna called the Heights Community Building. If you google it, there's pics of a cute wedding there. I will say from experience that it's really difficult to find a place in the Harrisburg/Lancaster area for $1000 and bring your own catering. If you're willing to do a Sunday, I know the Carlisle Ribbon Mill would be in your budget. Also in Harrisburg, the casino is seriously like $500 to rent and although the catering costs are a little higher, she's really flexible on working with you so you may be able to swing that (if it's something you like) for a smaller budget. The Event Place in Middletown. Great blank slate with exposed brick and a lot of character; however it was too small for us but would be great for around 50 people. You can message me if you are interested in more Hbg places; I found a few gems during my search that could work for you if you are willing to come this way!
  • Thank you so much for your response!  I will look into those places and see if they will work for us :)
  • try partyspace.com. also i looked into this place. you could get really creative and i think the rental fees were really reasonable.
