Band for 2nd line

Hey All! We're planning a small destination wedding in New Orleans in early Sept. We love the city and after visiting a few times a year for the past 4 years we have decided to move down next fall. We can't imagine getting married anywhere else!!! We both REALLY want to have a 2nd line parade after the ceremony. Can anybody recommend a brass band that would be willing to do a half hour for a reasonable price. I'm a bride on a budget & really want to make this happen if at all possible. I'm already aware of the permit & police escort we'll need. If anybody can help, it'd be greatly appreciated!

Re: Band for 2nd line

  • Im using Big Fun Brass Band. They quoted me $750 for a 6 piece brass band for a second line. They basically charge around $125 per instrument and they can do anywhere from a 4 piece to a 9 piece band, I believe. So you can probably get it a little cheaper than $750. I couldn't really find anyone much cheaper than that. Didn't do a ton of research though, so you never know!
  • We had Coolbone Brass Band play for 2 hours at our reception (which ended with a 2nd line around the venue). They were GREAT!!  They brought 7 people.  One of the highlights of the wedding.  I don't know what they charge just for 2nd line, but you can contact whiteoakproductions.com and see.  Highly recommend.  Just as FYI, White Oak productions handles many NOLA brass bands so if Coolbone is booked you can check out other bands as well.

  • We used Lagniappe Brass Band and they were great.  They looked and sounded great, and showed up on time.  They were also easy to communicate with via email.  Our police escort slightly changed our second line route, and the band just kept on playing.  Definitely one of the highlights of the day, and while it was not cheap between the band, permits and police, it was one of the most memorable moments.  We had a lot of local guests and they were impressed.
  • We are working with White Oak Productions as well. The band is called the Jay Walkers. It is $1350 for the band if you get the necessary permits yourself. It's $1500 if you have White Oak Productions do it for you.
