I don't want to wear an all white dress!

I've looked, and looked. I don't want all color, I don't want too little color, and I definitely do not want all white. I am a very colorful person and I would like my dress to show my personality. Does anyone have any advice on where to look? Or maybe a good, inexpensive dress maker that can make what I would like to see on myself? Please and thank you so kindly.

Have you checked out Alfred Angelo? I know that they carry dresses that incorporate color.

Also instead of looking at wedding dresses you could look at formal gowns at department stores or even look at designer BM dresses and such.

Check out Alfred Angelo's Dream in Color #1516. My SIL wore the red one for her wedding and it was GORGEOUS! I wanted some color with mine also, so I'm wearing a wider blue sash/ribbon that is really long in the back.

It's an old David's dress, though, so they're not selling them anymore

I decided i didn't like the red, so my seamstress is changing the color and neckline. And I'm going with a blue sash. I learned it's SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper ($1000-4000) to alter a ready made dress than start from scratch. so if you have a vision and can't find the exact dress, you can find a seamstress who can add color to a dress that you like. changing it on mine is the same amount of work as adding color would have been,i think. Just be sure to check with a seamstress before you buy that she can do it and how much it will be

I wore Alfred Angelo's #1516 from their Dream in Color collection for my wedding with the back in Viola.

What I love is they bring the color around to the front as well.

Thank you everyone for you suggestions. I am still looking for a bit more color, but those are wonderful ideas. I am a bride on a budget, I only have $500 to spend on a dress but I'll look further into it. This definitely helps my search. Thank you, thank you! ^o^

@rakashael; there are lots of the dresses in color available used. I knew I wanted purple, and I personally couldn't find one.

However, I found MANY of the Alfred Angelo ones in the claret (red), and the blue, and even a few in the green as well. Some in the style I wore, and some in the other styles AA has to offer. It's worth at least looking in to.

Hit up the vintage shops and like others have said try looking at formal dresses instead of wedding dresses. I found my dress in the vintage area of a local bridal shop and I love it.

I got my dress at David's Bridal. It was ivory with blue accents (same color as the BMs wore). That particular dress is discontinued but they have others that include some color. I paid about $300.

Something else you could do it find a dress you like and then add a sash, petticoat, etc. in whatever colors you like. My dress is all red!

An ombre dress would be a great way to get some color in without too much or without it being too different from the white. Here's one from DB, but I know there are more:

Another option would be to look at bridesmaid or prom dresses, instead of just searching bridal gowns. Or look at quinceanera gowns. Or even pageant dresses. Or just look for any formal gowns that aren't necessarily bridal gowns. And buying used would save a lot of money if you can find them.

keep your options open search used bridal gown websites such as preowned wedding dresses to see if any brides are selling a colored dress.

i know you only have 500 to spend but stay away from china knock off websites they may be super cheep but what you get is an ugly dress made with flammable liner fabric poorly sewn dress and very cheep accents. 99% of dresses bought off there need further alterations to make it look good and it ends up costing them way more than it would have to buy a real gown

If you get a dress with a corset back, you can use a colored ribbon to lace it up! My salon recommended I purchase either a grosgrain or double-sided satin ribbon. I went with black satin.

buy pre-owned.....or get a dress that is NOT bridal. Many designers offer styles on their bridesmaid lines that have sweep and court trains if the lack of a train bothers you. DEFINITELY wear what you want though....I personally feel white is over done, and being like everyone else is never what I want for myself!

I agree with PP about buying pre-owned. I just went on www.tradesy.com and limited my search to only pink and red dresses, and had quite a lot of beautiful options. I don't know what color you are looking for, but there are options out there.

Check out my sig pic. You can see the top part of my dress. I got a dress from the DB bridesmaid section in pink as my wedding dress. It was more "me" than any "bridal" dress. And I only paid 160 bucks for. My entire budget for attire (dress, shoes, tiara, alterations, etc) was about 500 bucks, so it's definitely doable. I found in my search that buying a colorful regular formal dress or bridesmaid dress was a lot cheaper than buying a colorful bridal dress. Good luck!

I've also been looking for a colored dress and have been having some trouble. I'm not looking for a dress that's colored and white though. I'm looking a blush dress and wedding dresses in that color tend to be very expensive and I'd like to keep the dress/alterations at or under $800, so I started looking at prom dresses. There are some very elegant dresses that I've found and I even think I've found the ONE! I want a big, princess dress and the one that I found isn't quite as big as I'd like but I plan on just buying crinoline for underneath. Good luck!

You should go to a local college & have a professor recommend a skilled student that can create your dress. I'm sure they'd be willing to do it inexpensively so that they could work on their portfolio. Good luck!
