can addresses by hand-written?

How do you write addresses on the front of envelopes? Calligraphy? (how much and who?) can you print address labels? is it ok to hand-write? Any ideas welcome!

Invitations should be hand addressed if at all possible.

Use a black Sharpie and retrace all the lines on a 4 x 6 index card.  Tuck the index card into the envelope, lines facing toward the front of the envelope.  You now have a guide to facilitate the addressing.

We used a calligraphy marker called The Elegant Writer, which can be found in most hobby stores. Just practice your best writing with the pen and you should be fine.

Handwritten is best. Labels are kind of frowned upon by some, but it's kind of a victimless crime.

Calligraphy means beautiful handwriting.  Personal handwritten addresses are the best way to address your invitations.

I ran my envelopes through the printer.  I have atrocious handwriting and am extremely embarrassed by it. I even had a handwriting tutor in school but only so much improvement happened.  Also, the physical act of writing causes me pain so things get worse as I go.  So for me printing was the best option (I couldn't afford to hire someone to do calligraphy on them) so they would look nice and the mailman could read the address.

A friend used clear labels because the envelopes she had could not be written on.  They were kind of shiny and wouldn't take the ink.

Handwritten by you or a calligrapher you pay is best. Printed by a printer is accepted. Labels are the last option I would choose but really it isn't a huge deal if you go with labels.

Maybe the label is part of a beautiful design... if so, make it nice, and I think they could look nice :)

Personally, I don't remember if the last 3 invitations I have gotten were handwritten, printed, or calligraphied (okay, that's not really a word). As others have said, using labels is a victim less crime and probably not a friendship ending etiquette blunder.

I have horrid hand writing, but I'm good with a printer so if I were doing more than six invites I personally would use the printer. The only exception (maybe) is if I were getting extremely formal professionally printed invitations. If I were going to that much expense I'd just spring for the calligrapher to complete the look. That's just me though, I really don't notice what other people do.

I read somewhere to print your envelopes in a light grey font then just trace over them with a pen or marker- I think we're going to go that route- I have decent handwriting but would like something a little nicer : )
