Mystic Yachting Center

Has anyone had or been to a wedding at the Mystic Yachting Center.  We love the building and are trying to finalize a guest list and were wondering if anyone had any input on the actual capacity of the building for a wedding.  They say 180, but thats for the whole building.  Thinking of about 135 guests and are wondering if that may get to cramped upstairs or if it will flow just fine. Any thoughts?

We just got married there this past may. We had 120 guests for a sit down dinner. The building and location are beautiful. But there were some things that I will share. We didn't have a food tasting until after the invitations went out and you don't get to try their cakes. We were able to have our rehearsal the night before at the venue because there was no other event there. However no one from blue ocean catering was present to help or to go over the plan. So if you have a coordinator great if not assign a bridesmaid or family member to help the flow of the ceremony. We got married out back and had our pictures taken around there. We never had one appetizer nor were we offered a drink. We had a couple of escort cards missing and they tried to charge us for them without asking. They had a complete list of guests, their table number and meal option. We had already paid for the two couples in the initial count. So that was something I didn't want to deal with at my wedding. I'd like to remind you that if it rains your ceremony will be inside, I don't think that would be terrible but it's definitely something to consider. Overall the catering staff did a good job. The venue looked great (we decorated ourselves). A few people did tell me after that their meal was cold but I guess that can happen. It's also not handicapped accessible, which I should've noticed but I was just in bride mode lol. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me. I hope this helps.
  • @Melj83  thanks for the input, a lot of things to consider.  Overall, did you feel the building worked with 120 people? Do you think that going a few more than that would be too much? And besides what you've already mentioned, were you happy with the wedding venue in the end.  I know nothing runs perfectly and there are going to be some mishaps, but I just want to feel like I am happy with the venue and the day after all is said and done.  Thanks!

Your right, nothing runs perfectly. At the end of the day we were happy and had a great day. That's really all that matters, don't sweat the small stuff and just enjoy every minute. It didn't feel cramped at all with 120 guests, a few more should be fine. We had 13 tables, I wouldn't go more then 14 maybe 15 tables. Because they'll end up on the dance floor. After dinner everyone mingles, the bar area is a great spacious place and the porch is also lovely.
