Why in the world would a 3-quart saute pan be more expensive than a 5-quart saute pan? Both are tri-ply stainless steel, same brand & line.

Is one of those sizes standard in a cookware set? If the 5 quart is the standard size, they probably make more, and have more on hand. Thus it can be sold at a lower price and still be profitable.

This. Despite the higher price, we have the Calphalon 3 quart. We bought it because it's the perfect size for almost all of our meals. 5 quart wouldn't get much use, so we didn't buy it.
