Makoy Center and Hilliard Historic Village Chapel?

Hi everyone! So I am planning my wedding from out of state (ugh) but I will be getting married on Labor Day weekend 2015. I am likely going with the Hilliard Historic Village Chapel for the ceremony and the Makoy Center (Mezzanine Room) for the reception. Has anyone ever had or been to a wedding at either of these venues? I'm looking for any tips about either venue since I can't visit in person for several months!

Re: Makoy Center and Hilliard Historic Village Chapel?

  • I have been to two weddings at The Hilliard Historic Village Chapel. It is a small and intimate chapel. I'm sure you have seen or googled pictures of it and it is basically exactly what you see. There aren't any extra rooms and it has the 2 columns of pews that take up the interior from the stage area to the doors. At the weddings I attended, the bride got ready in the building next to the chapel and walked from there to go down the isle. There are a few other parts of the Historical Village like the school house, train, and small bridge that would make for fun pictures. It does back up to the Franklin County Fairgrounds, so if there are any events going on there that weekend, parking may be an issue. They don't have events there very often, but being a holiday weekend it might be something you'd want to look in to.
Your ceremony and reception will be pretty close together (2 min. maybe?) so your guests will appreciate that!
I've been to the Makoy Center for a few different events, but unfortunately not a wedding. I know their staff does a good job of running things smoothly, but other than that I can't tell you much. They are pretty large rooms and it's a clean place.
I know that's not too much to go off of, but I hope that helps a little!
  • I toured the Makoy center. The woman that I worked with was very nice and the quote they gave me was totally reasonable. It didn't fit the vibe I was going for and was too far west for me but otherwise I liked it.

They have multiple event spaces but seperate entrances and parking areas and I think restrooms too so that's nice.
  • I attended a wedding at the Makoy Center. I am good friends with the bride and she was not happy. She stated that she was another bride/number. The staff where like robots going thru the motions. They acted very fake and just wanted the night to be over. Worst staff I have seen in the entertainment biz.
  • I agree with the above statement on the Makoy Center. I also just want to add that the area & the drive into the Makoy Center is less than ideal when you're trying to make an impression on your guests. I would suggest Royal American Links (although it is a little far in Galena) or the Medallion Club in Westerville.
