NWR: Galaxy vs. iPhone

FI wants to switch phone carriers. (And by wants to switch, I mean he already took his phone off our plan & switched carriers so apparently I am following suit...but that's another story). Anyways, he has always had iPhones, I've always had Android. However, I still have the Galaxy S3 so admittedly, I'm behind the times. My current debate is whether to upgrade to a newer Galaxy (4 or 5 -- but the 5 is HUGE so I doubt I would get the newest for that reason) or switch to the iPhone 6. I know it's probably just a personal preference thing but I'm having an awful time making a decision so I need opinions please & thank you!

My last phone purchase came down to size. I insist upon being able to hold it in one hand and reach all corners of the screen with my thumb. All the Androids at the time were getting gigantic, so I didn't have much of a choice so I got an iPhone 5. I've been really happy with the speed of the camera on it compared to my original Galaxy, but I can't compare it to the newer versions since then. IDK what I'm going to do now; I'm eligible for a new phone but I really don't want a 6.

I absolutely love my S4.  But I am the person who went from a nokia to a razor to an LG ENV and just upgraded to a smart phone last year!  I don't have much experience with iPhones, so I can't compare, but my little sister and her friends all have them and really like them (they are 13, so take that with a grain of salt :)

I just got an iPhone 6 today and I LOVE it.  It's the perfect size-- the screen is bigger than what I was used to on my 5, but still small enough to comfortably reach everything while holding it in one hand.  It's crazy thin and light.  And my bank will work with Apple Pay, which I can't wait for.  The camera is also incredible.

Are you familiar with iOS?  I think the software is the #1 thing that makes the iPhone better than Android.  I could wax poetic about how streamlined and useful it is, but you can go to the Apple site for that.  Long story short, I love my iPhone.

I just switched from 3S to 5 active. I love my new phone. DH went from a 3S to an Iphone6. Because he HAD to have an Iphone6. He told me yesterday he prefers my phone. Not really sure why.

I have the Galaxy S4 and I can't wait to go back to the iPhone. The S4 is too large, and it constantly freezes up or get stuck on a page. The iPhone (I had the 4) is leaps and bounds better.

How long have you had yours?  Mine hasn't had any issues so far in a little over a year.

I will say my dad and my brother (who are kind computery geeky types) like any android over any apple product because their is more you can do with them.  Apple products are more tightly controlled I guess.  (Admittedly, I don't fully understand all of this :)

I hate that I love iPhones, but I do. You always know what to expect, they are easy to use, and the quality is always there.

I have the Galaxy S5 and love it. It's the best phone I've ever had and have never had any issues. Then again I've never really had a "nice" phone besides the razr when it first came out, haha.  FH works in IT and is very overly critical of any electronic device and adores his S4.

I've had mine about a year as well. It's just really buggy. FH is a computer type and thought he would like the freedom that an android OS gave him. He realized that he didn't really want all that freedom when you sacrifice quality for it. He can't wait to get an iPhone next year, either.

I have the S5. I love the fact it's water proof. The size can be a little unwieldy but that's more because I have an otter box case that is huge. There is so much you can do with it. FI has the Iphone 4 and refuses to upgrade because he has the unlimited data plan and if he upgrades then he looses it.

My dad is a really geeky computer type, too-- he works in mobile tech.  The man built my first computer from pieces in the dumpster behind his job.  He went completely Apple for everything several years ago and has never looked back.  The quality is always there and he says OS X and iOS are the way he would want to program his own Linux OS if he just had the time.

I am always amused by the apple/android divide.  My brother (like your dad--builds his own computers and stuff) and my grandpa (the guy who got the first Mac and is a die-hard apple fan forever) have major arguments over it.

I just don't know enough to have a strong opinion.

OK I know I said you could borrow my dad but this sounds almost exactly like him! Major computer nerd and 100000% Apple convert.

I will also say this about the iOs - my 3yo nephew can use it. He's been taking selfies since he was 1.5. ;)

I had an S4, and liked it but I was missing the iPhone. I recently changed my plan to the Verizon Edge and just got the iPhone 6. Now I can get a new phone every year, but I am soooo happy to be back to the iPhone.

I've only had an iphone, and am currently rocking the 4s.  FI has only had Samsung phones, and is currently rocking the S3.  Neither of us want the newer versions of our respective phones, but we both want an upgrade.  Plus we're currently on separate plans and separate providers, so post-wedding we want to get on the same plan.  No clue what we will do.

While I am generally against using hashtags outside of Twitter, this is most definitely a #firstworldproblem.

S4! I've had mine for over a year and have had zero problems :) it's super fast and I love being able to customize. You can't do fun shit like that on IPhones.

Used to be an iPhone gal but had enough last year. I hated that phone by the end. I got the galaxy 4 and loved it. Signed up for AT&T next plan so ican upgrade every 12 months. I just got the s5 Friday. Don't think I will ever go back to Apple with their ever shrinking memory games and the propriety stuff. Only thing I miss is the wider choices in cases. .

Operating systems are very much a matter of personal preference (I haaaate Android anything after two terrible phones, but lots of people swear by it), but one thing you should really do is actually go hold the phones in your hand. Most Android phones are too big for me to use with one hand, whereas my iPhone is a much better size for me and much more comfortable to hold and use with one hand, which mattered to me a lot. All comments about the software aside, this was a way more important issue for me than most people seem to consider.

Android all the way here. After going through 3 iPhones in the course of a year for manufacturing problems (overheating, battery malfunctions, etc.) and each time having to drag myself to the crazy human maze they call an Apple store (florida mall is the nearest to me, which is still an hour away) to wait over an hour (with an appointment) just for crappy customer service EACH TIME--I was done. On the 3rd iPhone, as soon as I handed it to the AT&T guy to upgrade, he dropped it on the floor and it smashed into a million peices. They are made so poorly in my opinion, but I know I did have a string of bad experiences to make me prejudice. I went with the S4 active and I love it. I love that I don't need a case (I hate the bulk cases add). I love that I can go in the pool with it (again no case). I love that a lot of my apps are free (though Apple has monopolized some apps, that's the only bummer). It's great!!

My first android was a terrible one so it gave me a bad taste of android (about 4 years ago maybe?) so then 2 years ago I upgraded to the iphone 4S AND LOVED it! (I am also a macbook kind of girl as I went to school for graphic design and that's all they had at my school)

Last week I upgraded to the iphone 6 (64gb) and couldn't be happier. The 4S lasted me just over 2 years, I had to let it go because I maxed out on space (16gb) and the sound for music stopped working a few weeks ago (I was told the upgrade should fix that but I didn't have enough memory).

iphones do have less customization, but honestly that is fine with me. I am quite busy that I rather not spend time getting my phone they way I need it when apple already does a great job.

I highly dislike apple products. I don't have a very good reason, I just haven't had one so when I try to use one, I'm lost.

I have the Droid 4 as my personal phone right now, so old but it works fine.

My work phone is a Galaxy S5 and I LOVE it. The camera is amazing, it's fast, and the battery life is really long. Also, if you're worried about not being able to reach the whole phone with your thumb, it has a feature to do one handed texting, it shrinks your screen.

I have the Galaxy Note 3, and I could never go back to a smaller phone now.

However, I use it more like a mini tablet and rarely talk on the phone.  The speaker is pretty good though, which is important to me because I drive a lot.

Team iPhone, here. I hate big phones, which is why I chose the iPhone 5 over the Galaxy which was out at the time. I just recently got the iPhone 6, and although it is bigger, it is still a perfect size, and it is a lighter phone. I LOVE it. FI has the S5, and loves it. But he went from a really old work Blackberry to the S5. I'm not a fan of his phone.

I'm on my third iPhone, just got the 6 10 days ago.  I also am one that doesn't customize my phone, so not having that ability doesn't bother me at all.  I like how easy they are to use, but admittedly I probably only use 20% of the phone's potential uses, because I'm just not that tech-y.  I play games, surf the 'net, take pics, and FB on it.

The only thing I hate is if my home computer craps out, I'm up a creek because you're not supposed to be able to DL content from your phone to restore iTunes on your computer.  I had to search and find a program to pull all my songs off my phone (1800 of them!) and get them onto my new computer when mine died.  That's my fault though for not backing my iTunes up to another source though.

Ahhh! So many opinions. I appreciate every single one of them! Though I still have no idea which one to choose. Maybe I will just tell FI to surprise me & take whatever he brings home. LOL
