Who else is excited?

edited October 2014 in Chit Chat
So as a lot of people who are planning their wedding I have been watching Bridal TV shows galore. With that being said I thought this would be a fun discussion, we all know the Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard wedding already happened and they are already pregnant, I guess they were in a hurry lol but, I am finding myself sorta of excited to watch the wedding on Tuesday. They said they invited 1,000 people how do you cater to that many at a reception? The first kiss? When neither of them have ever kissed anyone before, awkward much? Then there is the whole conservative anti-dance reception, will there be music in the background at all? I am interested on how it will all turn out. Is anyone else excited to watch this 19 kids and counting episode on Tuesday?

Re: Who else is excited?

  • I actively choose to not watch their shows anymore, since I don't really approve of their lifestyle or family choices.

It makes for good TV though, but there's plenty of other reality trash for me to enjoy!
  • I do not like those people. They are awful.

  • I might dvr it just out of curiosity. I don't watch their show regularly, though.

I've been to a wedding where the couple didn't kiss until their wedding day.  It was super awkward since the presiding minister made references to it during the ceremony.
  • That whole family makes me ragey, so I try to pretend that they don't exist. Which is hard because TLC is my guilty pleasure!

  • I admit that I secretly am obsessed with the Duggars. My aunt always tells me to not watch the show because just looking at Jim Bob could get you pregnant, haha.

I thought this already aired, but I'm thinking of the Bates family wedding.

  • I'm really excited to finally see it!

However, I think they should have shown it earlier to not overshadow Jessa's actual wedding this week!

I know next season will be half about her wedding, I just feel a little bummed for her!

  • I think they had a cake and punch reception.  I think people helped with making the cupcakes.  Not sure if it was voluntold or offered.  I would imagine in their circle people help out.

In their circle 1000 people is really only about 100 families.  LOL

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Haha! I'm worried if all 19 of their children have 19 children too...pretty soon they're gonna take over the entire southern US! (they're in the south right?)

Yeah I am too. I don't agree with their lifestyle but they are like guilty pleasure reality TV cause their well odd. lol Wow I didn't know that yeah sorta bummed for her too.:/
  • I didn't even know any of them were getting married and have no interest whatsoever.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • On Tuesday I'm going to see Hocus Pocus on the big screen! Bette > Duggars
    Love that movie!
  • We should make a drinking game out of it.

Take a shot for every side-hug and a shot whenever someone feels "Just so blessed"
Haha love that idea! I don't understand the point of the side hug? It's like oh don't get to close must keep pure. lol What???
  • I have precisely zero interest in watching this. I think I've watched one episode ever, when there were only like 16 kids. Actually when you consider the intense interest I have in avoiding this, I really have negative interest.

To be fair, the Duggars are not in control of the TV programming schedule.  TLC is.  More than likely the schedule was made before Jessa was even engaged.  She only got engaged in what August?  And picked the date not long after that.  The new season started only a few weeks later.

Yes please! Like @pumpkincreamcake15‌ I also don't get the side hug. Sometimes FH gives me a side hug and it confuses the hell out of me. He is an athiest and pretty damn liberal so it's not like hes trying to be pure or whatever haha. I feel like they are lazy and creepy.

Yeah, I don't quite understand my unnecessary hostility towards side hugs either.

  • The side hug is common in Christian youth ministry to keep people from "too much touching". As an adult helping with the youth, it's encouraged so that the kids don't get the wrong idea and accuse people of inappropriate touching.

I think if you're worried about kids getting the wrong idea about a hug, you probably should just not touch kids. Sorry. That just seems really victim blamey and cover our ass fuck the kids to me.
There is just a lot of scrutiny regarding how adults interact with Catholic youth. There are quite a few precautions we have to take to reduce suspicions. Side hugs is one of them. ETA: I can appreciate how it can sound like victim-blaming. I know of several of my (now former) youth group kids developed crushes on the male youth ministers and volunteers before most of these precautions were put in place. It's something to help prevent youth from reading too much into something as simple as a hug.

Does anyone remember the "Christian side hug rap"?!

Maybe they should be less concerned about hugs and focus more on the blowjobs. Just a thought.

  • I wont be home, so I'll probably DVR it. I'm curious to see how a cake/punch, anti dancing reception for 1,000 people looks like.

    Fucking terrible.

Of course, if you've never been to a fun reception, I guess you wouldn't know you're in hell.

Advance apology, nothing is wrong with a cake and punch reception, or no dancing but I certainly think 1000 people anywhere with just cake, and no alcohol is one of the 9 layers of hell.

  • If I have a chance to catch it on TV, I would watch it. Always interested in seeing different weddings!

  • How much fucking cake and punch do you need for 1000 people?
