wedding cake + additional desserts?

Wondering if people usually offer a dessert table in addition to serving wedding cake?

Cake tasting is scheduled for 2 weeks and I have no idea what I want in terms of design and unsure how to budget for it.  Guest list will more than likely be around 125, but was going to order a cake for 150 (in case slices are cut too big, or anyone wants another piece!) I'd hate to run out of cake.

Re: wedding cake + additional desserts?

  • I've never been to a wedding that served more than cake for dessert.  As a guest, I'd be happy to have extra dessert, but I certainly wouldn't expect it, either.
  • I've actually seen this several times!  It's always been a big hit.  Usually in addition to cake, there have been smaller, bite-size desserts (like truffles, chocolate covered strawberries, biscotti, etc).

I would not order more cake than you need.  More often than not, there is TONS of cake left over - especially if there is a separate dessert table.  Honestly, in my experience, the dessert table is more popular than cake.
