Battery candles or the real thing?

I'm using mason jars and candles for my ceremony and reception decorations. I want really real candles but everyone keeps saying I should use battery candles. What do to you all think?

    I just sat done with a couple of people last night and we discussed having votives with our centerpieces as well.  (We are also doing mason jars).  I think real candles are much prettier.  I'm glad you posted this because I haven't even thought about what I would use.  Maybe we could buy a set of each and see what we like better by seeing what they look like now?

    Check with your venue...I'm also doing mason jars with candles and my barn-venue says NO fire/flames allowed, so we have to use the battery ones.

    Our venue allows for open flame. But that's a good idea, I'll pick up a few of each and test it out.

    Our venue makes you contact the local fire department to let them know you will be using real candles are observing their rules and regulations.
