ideas on how to incorporate my theme??

So when we first got engaged I wanted to involve some sort of "beachy" theme because the future hubbs loves tropical fish (one of his hobbies is keeping up with our big reef tank) I didn't want the wedding to only be what I like. The more I see and plan the more the whole beach theme seems to be disappearing. The only thing that I really have as far as an idea for beach decor is place cards in sand with sand dollars and starfish between. Everything else has turned more to the elegant and slightly "blingy" side.
Is there anything I can do to keep a little bit of what he likes involved without it being a weird combination or too beachy?? HELP
BTW our ceremony is on site and outdoors if that helps to think of anything.

If the plans and the reality have seriously parted ways, it is time to sit down with your decor people and make changes.  The "everything has turned more to the elegant and slightly blingy side" is not an excuse for go so far off track.  You were actually there when the designs were being planned, right? So you did see the train running off the rails.  Beach themes are easy and usually super economical.  But, if you really do want elegant and blingy and have changed your mind, it is time to talk with FI.  Right now, it sounds like your place card table has nothing to do with the rest of the decor.

Does your FI really want some sort of "beach" or "tropical" theme or is it something you want to do because he has a hobby of keeping tropical fish?  I think you and your FI need to discuss your wedding and what you have planned so far.  Weddings don't need themes by the way so don't let yourself get stuck in a "we are planning an elegant and blinged out wedding."

And yeah, your place card table will stand out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of your wedding.

What are the colors you are working with?  You can still keep the bling but have the colors represent the ocean by choosing blues and greens.  Get your FI a tropical fish grooms cake.  Find a cute tropical fish cake topper.  Give out Swedish Fish as your favor.

But in the end you and your FI need to be on the same page with the direction of your wedding.  There are always ways to incorporate a hobby of yours or your FI into your wedding.  You certainly don't have to designate an entire theme around it.

Have a beach or tropical fish inspired groom's cake.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

    This is what I'd do.

Eh, just because he has a hobby doesn't mean it needs to be incorportated all throughout the wedding. I like the idea of a groom's cake.

It's SO easy to go off track, especially when you buy things early on, so I feel your pain (I'm running into it now and have already made so many returns). I'd make a list of everything you have and where you envision it (centerpieces - reception, candles - cocktail hour or whatever it may be) so you can truly see on paper where everything would go. I think going with more of an upscale, bling-y theme and then mixing in beach escort card displays would be confusing and won't look as put together.

I really love the groom's cake idea as previous posters have stated. Such a cute idea.
