what do I need to buy?!

I know that answers may vary on this one but I'm paranoid that I'm going to forget something important. What are some things that I can't forget to purchase for the big day? I'm talking anything including detail type stuff that I might overlook such as aisle runner or decorations...anything you can think of I'd love to hear it, you never know I might be completely spacing something out and you all would be a huge help to me!! Thanks everyone :)

    A marriage license?

ETA: Oops, looks like this was already mentioned. But yeah, don't forget to get it! haha
  • Wedding insurance. A lot of venues require it.

I've actually never heard of that..what is it for? in case the wedding doesn't actually happen or something??
  • None of the venues I looked at required wedding insurance... And depending on your wedding I don't think a coordinator is necessary either.
  • Less than you think. The wedding industry would certainly like you to believe that you neeeeeeeed a thousand things that you can't possibly keep track of without lists and planning binders, but I promise lack of an aisle runner is not going to invalidate your marriage.

But yeah, this is pretty vague. I suggest getting yourself a wedding planner. But off the top of my head:

    Photographer
    DJ
    Florist
    Officiant
    Decorations/chairs for ceremony spot
    Decorations/centerpieces for reception
    Cake/cake topper
    Toasting flutes
    Escort cards
    Card box
    Guestbook
    Marriage licence
    Rings
    Vows (if your'e writing them)
All accessories for your dress (jewelry, shoes, etc.)

  • Wedding insurance. A lot of venues require it.

Every venue we looked at required events (any events, not just weddings) to purchase liability insurance. Maybe that's what she means? We needed $1M of coverage for our venue. It wasn't very expensive and we just tacked it onto the company that does our auto insurance.

First you'd find out if the venue requires liability insurance. If they do, then you'd call an insurance company and ask how much it costs to get $XXX amount of coverage. They'll ask you where it is, how many people, will there be alcohol, etc. Then they'll give you a price.

Yes, this. We looked at about 5 venues here in the NorCal area and they all required it. And you are right, that it is not very expensive. What is covers are things like cancellations (if you need to cancel/reschedule your wedding for whatever reasons such as deaths in the family, accidents, etc), vendor no-shows, venues closing/not opening on time, or damage to the venue by your guests.

So even if it is not required, it may be something to look in to depending on your situation. A friend of mine had to change her wedding date because her father was in a serious work-related accident and in the hospital for several weeks. She didn't have insurance and had to pay a fee to move her wedding date.

  • Here a couple things that I wouldn't have already thought of:

Cake slicer/server. Even with such an all-inclusive venue, they didn't include that with the cake, which was included.

Large bag or boxes to take home whatever you may have dropped off in advance, like said cake slicer or leftover favors.

Extra pair of shoes if your ceremony shoes aren't that comfortable.

    Energy drinks.

My mom loaded her "mom purse" with things like safety pins, bobby pins, Shout-wipes, and the like.

@thisismynickname - THANK YOU!!  I just realized I would have totally forgotten to get a cake slicer.  Somehow that wasn't even on my radar
