is this a good price?

I got quoted $600 for a videographer, unlimited time. He doesnt have any work online "for privacy reasons" but he said if we meet up he can bring some of his work to show us. We are still unsure on whether or not to have one/have the budget for one. He sounded very professional and proper on the phone, should I go ahead and meet up with him?

    That sound too goos to be true. I would be very leery of a "pro" with no online presence. He might be stealing other's work nd passing it off as his own - by not posting it he doesn't risk getting caught. I would ask to see footage and then talk to the actual clients, make sure it all check out.

    $600 is really cheap for unlimited coverage. Does it include post production/editing?

    This is a big red flag!  I'd pass.  Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is!   Just out of curiosity, have you been able to find any reviews for him?

    As for pricing, it varies by region.  Have you tried seeking recommendations on your local board?

    @JoanE2012

    I dont have a local board because I am in PR. I found him on a local wedding website. I don't remember if he had reviews, I think he didn't.

    @photokitty it should include editing and the CD

    Anyways I talked to Fi and he hates the idea and we honestly don't have the budget for it so, we aren't going that route sadly.

    Thanks for the time to advice!

    I believe that if you can meet with him, so that he can show you his previous work samples, with no compromise then you should give it a try. You might end up being surprised.

    Sorry, I've never met a professional photographer or videographer that doesn't have his work displayed online.  What's he hiding?  Is the work truly his or is it stolen?  No reviews?  All signs point to shadiness.

    That sounds so sketchy! Cheap prices does not guarantee quality. There are a lot of photographers who call themselves professionals but they aren't. I would be very careful with this guy.

    I agree wt the rest. If a videographer was a pro and was smart enough to use the power of the web and social media then he would have a website and examples on youtube or something. It just doesn't make sense. Just get wedding insurance for this!

    I don't think wedding insurance will help against unhappiness with a vendor's work.  It may help if he doesn't show up, but then you end up with your money back but no video.  And you can't recreate that.  This is not something I'd want to chance.

    Since he doesn't have work to show you, it is possible that he is just starting out.  It doesn't necessarily mean that he's shady.  However $600 unlimited means that most likely he is a hobbyist.  If he was a professional, he wouldn't be able to afford doing it for $600.  If he was a photographer, I would hire him for an hour session to see what his work is like, but with video idk.

    Read the OP again.  She said he doesn't have his work online for "privacy reasons".  Yeah, no.  That's shady.

    I would be worried that if he was sharing his work with you that he might have stolen it from elsewhere online.  Any true professional would have their work on their site.

    I agree with photokitty, this seems too good to be true.  That amount is just way too low, unless you're getting a special deal.  For your wedding day you need to be comfortable. Yes you need great photo's and shots.  But you really need to feel comfortable.  I don't believe that you feel comfortable when even you feels that this might be wrong.  I'd just pass it by and feel comfortable.
