San Diego Beach Ceremony

Hello,
We are from Chicago looking to have our wedding in San Diego.  We would like to just have our ceremony on the beach since we already have an idea for a place to hold our reception.  Can anyone suggest what steps to take to have a short ceremony on a beach with 70-120 guests?

Re: San Diego Beach Ceremony

  • You'll need to get a day use permit from the city where the beach is at.  Here is the link for SD:

La Jolla and Del Mar both have some great bluff side options.  Just depends on where your reception venue is and how close you want it to be!
  • Another option is San Diego Bay.. you can get a permit through the Port of San Diego website
  • Where will your reception be held?

Depending on the time of year/day of week/time of day, you will have a lot of onlookers. I love this idea, but FH hates it.

We just recently watched a wedding take place at La Jolla Shores. The La Jolla Shores Hotel can accommodate a beach wedding plus reception, but this was just in the general/public part of the beach. It seems they must have received a permit for the day. They didn't have chairs or anything, they lined the "aisle" with rose petals. It was pretty.
