when did you start your bridal registry?

Hey Ladies at what point do you start your bridal registry? Obviously the bridal shower happens a few months prior to the wedding so I'm not sure how far in advance to start it?

I had family that wanted to get U.S. engagement gifts so we started about 16 months before the wedding. My shower is in August so I just went back and made sure items were still available and added a few things.

It really depends on if you are having an engagement party or if you have people that want to get you engagement gifts but I would say 6 months before the wedding is normal.

We registered as soon as we picked a date (about 13 months ahead of the wedding.. so 11 ahead of the anticipated shower date). This worked well for us because we were able to take our time and go to the stores multiple times without feeling rushed- also we kept our registry as private for about a month as we were tweaking and editing. We continually check to make sure items on our registry are available but many sites will also inform you if an item you have registered for is no longer available. Also, registering early worked well for people who wanted to use the registry to pick from for engagement gifts.
