What's Your Day-Of Perfume?

In my search of planning the perfect wedding I came across an article from the April edition of Bridal Guide's "12 Fresh New Wedding-Day Perfumes," I immediately thought to myself "Really? This is getting out of hand. There is so much that goes into planning a wedding such as the flowers, cake, photographer, venues, DJ, invitations, then of course you factor in the DIY stuff to save money it's all driving me crazy, now they are suggesting a day-of perfume! Don't get me wrong, every plan that is set in place is bittersweet since it will be the last thought that will take place.

In the midst of my own planning, I have been stressed, excited and emotional all at the same time and since I am an overly detailed person the anxiety has been overwhelming to say the least now the thought of having to decide on a day-of perfume, this is getting crazy.

In all reality, I have given this some thought and read similar articles on how wearing a day-of perfume that you normally would not wear and then wearing it after can give you reminiscent thoughts of the day. We all hire photographers and videographers to have a mental picture, why not include our other senses that help to remind us of our special day? A day-of perfume makes sense. So, I went to my local mall and started spraying away on some of the suggestions listed in the article. Now there is a science to this, not every one scent smells the same on every one person. There's something that has to do with pH levels and your chemical make up that can make you smell like you walked the red carpet OR you smell like the 20 year old bathwater that your grandma used to wear.YUCK! An article titled "Body Chemistry Has Everything to Do with Fragrance" on www.howstuffworks.com stated that "Fragrance isn't something you can impulse-buy, and there are two main reasons for this. One: Because all perfumes are composed of a top note, a middle note and a base note, they change over time -- the top note you noticed when you sprayed that card will totally change as the fragrance evaporates. And two: Your body chemistry has a major effect on a fragrance. What smells heavenly on your friend may not necessarily work for you."  Needless to say, I sought out my favorite scent and reluctantly went home to see if my soon to be better half liked it, because after all he will be there standing by my basking in all the glory too! One more thought on this before I share with you just what my purchase will be. From speaking with other couples and what they use to reminisce about their wedding day, a majority say that they break out the ole wedding album to drum up their feelings and emotions from that day. Now, how many can say that their husbands actually do that on their own? Sure some say they will sit with you on anniversaries and look but how many actually do this on their own time? So with this being said why not wear a perfume that your soon-to-be hubby will remember this day every-time you wear it? Hmmm not such a bad idea after all!

Okay, the moment you all have been waiting for...drum roll please...j/k. I have decided on purchasing Something Blue by Oscar de la Renta! Two reasons for this...I don't have my "something blue" just yet and the smell is spectacular and lasted 10x longer than the other suggestions. The scent is amazing with its fruity-floral notes that has hints of mandarin, lychee, lily of the valley, bourbon vanilla, and white musk. My fiancee loves vanilla and my mom's favorite flower is lily of the valley so in actuality I am pleasing not only myself nut my fiance and mom with the scent I will be wearing.

So what will your's be?

Re: What's Your Day-Of Perfume?

  • I honestly hadn't even thought of this! I was just going to wear my usual "going out" perfume, which is Mademoiselle by Chanel.  It's pricey, so not an everyday perfume for me, and it's very pretty.  FI bought me my first bottle for my bday last yr.
Maybe I should look for a new "wedding day scent" though.  I'll add it to the list :)
  • I am a big perfume kinda of gal so I always have a slew of choices around me.  My thought is to have my FH pick my day of perfume but we will see.  Right now on the short list of perfumes for my wedding day is Cartier's Basier Vole, Burberry's Weekend, or Hanae Mori Butterfly.

  • Love all of these choices you ladies have posted! I am sure you will smell just as beautiful as you will look!!!

  • Leaning towards Viva la Juicy or Viva la Noir from Juicy.  It's a summer wedding, and I'm a big fan of perfumes with fruity notes.

  • I don't wear perfume... It wasn't even something I thought of.
I'll probably just use some fruity-scented body lotion the morning of so the scent of that will linger on me throughout the day.

I have actually been thinking about this because my cousin both had "special" perfume on their wedding days. One of them called me and said she would like to buy my "wedding day" perfume. I am not sure what I would like but have been thinking about "Flower Bomb" but am going to go to Nordstrom and pick up some samples.....the will give a little sample of anyone you want to try.

  • My wedding day perfume is now decided.  It is "My Burberry" by Burberry.  Burberry parfumes tend compliment my body chemistry beautifully.

    Notes:
Sweet Pea, Bergamot, Geranium, Golden Quince, Freesia, Patchouli, Rain-Tipped Damask and Centifolia Roses.

  • I plan on wearing Gucci Guilty! It's the perfume I was wearing when FH and I first met :)
