Different gowns for only 2 maids?

I am only having 2 attendants (our daughters). I narrowed down our choices to 2 dresses and of course we all like both of them very much. But I feel with only 2 maids it will not look very good with them both having a completely different style dress. The dresses will be same length, color and neckline (red) but the materials are slightly different (chiffon and lux chiffon) and the styles are very different. This is for a summer evening wedding.

The pics are below, along with the wedding gown I'm wearing. Advice and opinions/suggestions appreciated!

I think it will look just fine if you went with two different styles. Since you like both of them equally I would just leave it to your daughters to pick their favorite. They may just pick the same dress.

And if you wanted to you could always buy a brooch that could be pinned to the second dress so that it has a similar bling to it as the first. But that is optional of course.

I think it will look fine. I have four ladies and they are all picking whatever style they want, right now it looks like 3 of them want the same style and one wants a different one. However, I want them all to be comfortable so that is fine with me.

I'm in the same position with only two maids, my sister and my FSIL. We haven't started shopping for them yet, but I would really prefer that they agree on the same dress or at least very similar dresses.

I love Maggie's suggestion of putting a brooch on the red dress to make them a little more matchy. If you really want them to match, though, I think I'd go for the red dress. It complements yours a little better, and it leaves itself more open to accessories.

I originally told my 2 maids to pick their own dresses. I only changed my mind when I decided I wanted a patterned dress for them. It will be fine if they are in different ones.

I had two attendants at my wedding. My sister, the MOH, wore a turquoise prom dress that I had worn. My SIL wore a pink dress in a completely different style. My photos still look good after 39 years.

I essentially had 7 bridesmaids (no MOH); 5 women and 2 men. I asked them all to wear a jewel-tone. I had one girl in red, two in bright blue, and two in navy. All were long dresses, except for one short navy dress with navy tights. One of the men wore a black suit with a purple tie, the other wore a red/maroon velvet jacket and matching tie.

My pictures look amazing. And all of my best friends look like themselves. Style and personal expression is important to me, I couldn't imagine making my best friends all dress the same. And also, I know they were comfortable, especially the girl 3-months postpartum and the girl 6 months pregnant who didn't have to force themselves into a typical bridesmaid dress!

I had 2 and the plan was different dresses in the same color/length. As it turned out they both liked the same dress and got it although I was fine with them in different dresses, wouldn't have made a difference

With it being the same color & length, they will compliment each other beautifully. Then you bring in the matching bouquets, you will have a beautiful pulled together look. And since each girl is in a dress they feel comfortable in, they will be happier and that will shine through in how they carry themselves on the special day & in the photos.l

it will look fine. I was just in a wedding where the two bridesmaids wore different dresses (same color and length), and in my wedding, my BMs wore same color, length and fabric dresses, but chose their own dress. It looked great (see below).
