Share Your Beach Bum Vacations Experience!!

I am having my first phone call with my BBV planner Thursday! I'm so excited!

I'm just looking for anyone to share their BBV experience!

We are looking to get married in 2017 in Hawaii or Puerto Rico since they do not require passports

Do you know the legal requirements for ceremonies there? Sometimes the legal marriage part can be a lot more diffuclt to obtain than a passport.

  • I booked with them to attend a DW in St. Thomas. After I booked, we were relocated for work. So we had to change our flights and add nights because the new flight was going to be much longer. Thankfully, we had insurance and BBV made all of the necessary changes without fuss!

You have SO much time, so I can't imagine there is much you can book yet. Hopefully they can at least help you narrow things down.

  • I techically had a Beach Bum consultant, but didn't actally find her helpful. I didn't use her to find a venue, and since I didn't block rooms off, it was cheaper for my guests to just book their travel online. BBV simply books flights and hotels at whatever rate the hotel and airline has the day you book it. Other travel sites incuded discounts that aren't available to the travel agent.

  • @ShesSoCold: we are mainly looking at places that do not require passports to avoid another cost for our guests. My family has passports but FI's does not nor do many of our friends. However, I have looked into PR's requirements and they are not very extensive; Hawaii I am not sure of.

@Jellsdot0: Yeah, our BBV planner did tell us this, but we just want to narrow down our choices and pick a couple venues. I realize we can't really do much until we choose that and even then we have to wait to actually book anything. I'm glad we have a lot of time though!

@msuprincess04: I am hoping ours is helpful in choosing a venue and finding affordable vendors. I have been doing research on my own though, so I may just end up going with what I find. I have also read that sometimes BBV does not offer the best flight/hotel rates, but that's ok, our guests are not required to book through them, so they are free to choose to book their travel however they like. I know my brother and SIL had their honeymoon in Cabo for $1000 each through cheapcaribbean.com, which always offers good deals.

    That makes sense! :)

For Hawaii, show up to the Department of Health office with $60 and your form filled out (and ID of course).  No residency, no blood tests, I think it's good for 60 days.  You can fill out the form there or ahead of time online (print it and bring it).  Easy peasy.

  • Thank you so much! @Winstonsgirl

Good to know it's so easy in Hawaii as well :)

  • I think you'll find the cost of a passport will be less than travel to Hawaii. However, I could be mistaken!

I do know that travel agents have access to Expedia and Cheap Caribbean pricing. So, travel agents can get you the same price as what is seen online, plus the added bonus of having one stop shop if there are issues, rather than calling Expedia and getting a different person each time. Presumably you are also booking with a destination specialist. Expedia can't offer that either! Travel agents can also offer group blocks and bonuses if your group is all planning to stay at the same resort for the same length of time. I know a few people who have done DWs and none of them went the group block route, though.

  • I used Beach Bum Erica and she was amazing!!!! She was a life saver especially a month before the wedding when family was driving me crazy! Also our resort failed to mention to us until a month before the wedding the night club we were having the reception was being remodeled to a sports bar and would be closed when we were there. She stepped in and helped me resolve the issue quickly. I hope your call went great and your person is as amazing as our experience was!
