Destination Weddings - Secrets St. James??

Hello, my Fiance and I are planning a destination wedding although I am a little torn on where to go. We are looking for an adults only, all inclusive. My Fiance says he really likes the Secrets St James, however I am not able to find a lot of information on their weddings (particularly the photographer)...having some really nice photos is important.  Has anyone had their wedding (or been) there recently? My parents suggested going to one of the Couples resorts and I really like some of the Sandals resorts as well. If anyone has recently gotten married (or honeymooned) in the Caribbean let me know what you think! Neither of us have been to the Caribbean so we aren't really sure what to expect.

Thanks!! :)

Re: Destination Weddings - Secrets St. James??

  • I always thought people chose to have destination weddings because some place was very special to them and/or they wanted to get married in a specific climate they didn't have in their own location (i.e. someone in Wyoming wants a tropical wedding). Is that your case or are you set on the Caribbean?

You'd think that, but lately it seems a lot of DWs are about pretty pictures. It's kind of sad because DWs are super inconvenient to guests.

To the OP- I would highly recommend speaking with a destination wedding specialist travel agency. There are SO many options to choose from and you will need help finding something that best suits your wants/needs/budget and your guests' budgets.

  • We were both born and raised in New England and we were looking for something more tropical. We are eloping so were thinking about just combining the wedding with our honeymoon all at one resort.
  • Ah, that's a little different. Definitely talk to a travel agency and since it'll be just the two of you, no need to worry about the convenience/budgets of others, so it makes things easier. Sorry, I don't know much about the Caribbean, but wishing you well!

It's not technically eloping if people know you are having a wedding or if you only have a handful of guests. It sounds like you are having a private wedding, which is nice. We had a private wedding as well, though we did actually elope. We got married in Australia, but we got married on one island, started our HM there, and then switched to a different resort for the latter part of the HM. If it is truly just the two of you, I definitely think having the wedding and HM all at one resort would be very nice.
