Wedding Invitations & Paper

Intimate Ceremony with Informal Reception 2 weeks later

Hi Everyone!  I'm getting married May 14, 2016. We want to keep our ceremony small, intimate, and personal so only parents, grandparents, siblings, and a couple close friends are invited. Afterwards, we are doing a nice sit down dinner with these people.

Then, 2 weeks later (May 28th), we are going to have an "I Do BBQ." This is going to serve as our informal post wedding reception. This party will be much bigger and include all of our families, friends, coworkers, family friends, etc, etc, etc.

I'm trying to figure out how to word our BBQ invitations so people understand that they will not be witnessing a ceremony. Any ideas/thoughts would be extremely helpful!   :)

To the first bolded: this is your reception. A reception is held immediately following the wedding to thank your guests for attending your ceremony.

To the second bolded: this should be called a "celebration of marriage." This will help avoid confusion among your guests. @CMGragain can help you with the proper wording for your celebration of marriage invitations. She is really amazing with this kind of thing.

  • In celebration of our marriage that took place on May 14th,
we are holding a party at our home on May 28th at 2 p.m.

We hope you can join us in celebrating our life together and enjoying the company of our friends and family!

The barbecue will not be your second reception.  It is simply a party.  It is not a part of your wedding at all.  This is good!  Because it isn't a part of your wedding, you can invite anyone you wish, and you are not limited to people who are invited to your wedding.
You send out invitations to this just like any other party.  Feel free to show off your honeymoon photos, but no wedding dress, no wedding traditions.  Serving cake is fine.  I like @ryanandjoe4's idea.

    Sorry! Wrong post!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14
