Favors

Lottery Ticket Favors ?

I saw this was posted not too long ago, but for some reason my phone wont open a closed thread.

Anyways, I was thinking about having an envelope (will attach photo) that says "For Richer, For Poorer" with a coin and a scratch off inside for a favor. I know they aren't required, but I really like the idea. They would be in the envelope, and placed on each place setting.

Just figured I would put the feelers out there, as I'm really on the fence with them. I think they could be a lot of fun, but would hate for them to be inappropriate. There will also be a cotton candy machine for a yummy favor as well.

Re: Lottery Ticket Favors ?

  • While you can't go wrong w an edible favor, I think this is cute and scratch tickets are fun!
  • Thanks!

I was hoping it didn't sound too inappropriate or anything!

  • For a non-edible favor I think this is a great idea. This could be a lot of fun for the guests, especially if someone wins. If I were a guest at your wedding, I would enjoy getting this.
  • They did something similar at a "Rubber Chicken Circuit" Convention I attended years ago...  One thing is if you've got a lot of OOT guests, it can be a challenge when it comes to cashing them in.  I wasn't from the area nor were there many stores in that area that I could have taken the ticket to in order to get the money my ticket won.  Then there were some in the audience with recovering addictions..

It's a "know your crowd" favor.

  • Those are really good points MesmrEwe ! Thank you, I hadn't considered previous addiction, and the jury is still out on exactly how many guests are coming from out of state. Thanks again for that food for thought!

  • I like the idea!  I don't think I'd worry so much about addictions.  Do you not serve alcohol at all because there may be someone who is an recovering alcoholic?

The cotton candy sounds yummy too!
  • This is the one non-edible favor that I actually like.  The chance to win some money is always nice.

  • I'd think you were an idiot if I saw these favors. You may as well just light money on fire.

If you think your people will love it, go for it, and obvi lots of people here are into it, but I think it's a complete waste of money.
  • I hope you're not in IL, OP. Our lottery is broke and they can only pay out $600.
Image result for someecard betting someone half your shit youll love them forever

Well that can be said about all favors.

At least I get something with chocolate. With a scratch off I get paper with designs on it.

You get a possibility that you might get some money.  If you don't like that, you can leave it or give it to someone who would like it.
  • I like this idea.
  • Thank you for your thoughts.

There will also be chocolates on the tables, and if the weather is suitable, a cotton candy station. So there will still be edible sweets.

And no, I'm in Michigan, as of right now our lottery isn't broken, but there's still seven months for that. Our economy is up and down constantly here. Fingers crossed. And thanks for that food for thought.

Thanks also, STARMOON44, I really appreciate an opposing view, as at the wedding they may not be for everyone.

  • I like it!
  • I think it's cute. You could always say on the envelope "we're gonna get lucky and we hope you do, too!"
  • I like this idea quite a bit.

But two things come to mind:
    1. Just be careful to remind folks from out of state to cash the ticket before leaving the boarder.
    2. I don't supposed you are having a Catholic Wedding...but this favor could be small o - offensive to some people that are very religious. Because gambling isn't always looked well upon.

    But otherwise - why not
  • Very good food for thought! Thank you everyone.

Absolutely not a religious service, but there will be a lot of very religious guests from grooms side, so I'll have to look into it further with them. Thanks so much!

  • WTF I can't quote.

#2 is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. I'm Catholic & have been my whole life. Catholics are well known for playing Bingo, which is a form of gambling.
  • My Catholic school hosted bingo games every Thursday in our gym.
  • The Catholic Church has no problems with gambling as long as it's not excessive, then it starts falling into 7 deadly sin area.  But a few scratch off tickets, no big deal.

I think you might be confusing Catholics with other types of Christianity, some of which do not drink or gamble.

  • Actually i'm not, In the city I live in The Catholic School Board (K-12) is not permitted to do fundraising via Bingo or Casino because it's not viewed highly. Which is where the thought came from.

I have many teacher friends that are not in the Public System and gripe about how they have to sell chocolate bars and other things because they can't do these nightly gambling type fundraising activities.

It doesn't mean that all Catholics, or other types of Christians follow this line of thinking. It was just a mention as something to think about in case. You never know.

The school board where I grew up didn't let us sell Blow-Pops for fundraisers because it was a "choking hazard". Therefore, all people from that area are anti Blow-Pop.

  • How could anyone be anti blow-pop ?

    Those things are delicious.

I know, right?!?!?!  Several student organizations sold them for fundraisers and they were like a quarter a piece.  Students would walk around with the stick sticking out of their mouths and I think the administration was afraid that someone would trip and somehow choke themselves.
